If I am being honest, I found the PanOxyl PM Balancing Renewal Moisturizer to be pretty average. Not great but not bad either. It has a great formulation, consistency and application. It leaves your skin feeling moisturized and hydrated. It has a matt finished and does not leave a long lasting glow (probably from the Palmitic Acid – found in beeswax and gives products a smooth finish).
What really impressed me about this moisturizer is its ingredient list! For a standard drug store moisturizer, retailing for CA $20, it is packed with some great ingredients. For example, it has glycerine, a bunch of lipids and ceramides (Linoleic Acid, Phospholipids, Sphingolipids), hyaluronic acid’s cheaper sister (Sodium Hyaluronate), Caprylyl Glycol, Oleic Acid, Stearic Acid, ,2-Hexanediol all to hydrate, moisturize and smooth the skin.
It also contains a bunch of soothing and anti-inflammatory ingredients to help with acne prone skin such as: Centella Asiatica (Cica) Leaf Extract, Allantoin, Hydroxyacetophenone (an antioxidant that inhibits inflammatory pathways), Linolenic Acid (anti-inflammatory properties), Polylysine (kills Propionibacterium ances species of acne causing bacteria). It also has my favourite acne scar and dark spot fighting ingredient, impressively listed 3 on the ingredient list, NICINAMIDE (vitamin-B3)!!!

So, this was a tough one for me to review, and honestly I am still torn between whether I love this mineral sunscreen/moisturizer or not. So instead of doing my typical review style, I will break my thoughts down into pros and cons.
Pros: Very few, and I mean very few, American formulated mineral sunscreens don’t leave a white cast on my brown/tan coloured skin… this is one of them! I love the liquid consistency of this sunscreen, as well as its application. It takes a couple seconds to rub in but leaves my skin with a dewy glow which I love. I also like that this product doubles as a moisturizer and sunscreen, so it is great for people looking for a minimalistic morning skin care routine.
Cons: I am not one of those people who like a minimalistic skin care routine. Not that there is anything wrong with only using 1-2 products, it might actually be better to not have a 10-step skincare routine if you suffer from acne but personally that’s just not for me. Skincare is my therapy, so I enjoy spending time to do it. That being said, my con for this produt is that it cannot be layered with the rest of my skin care routine! When I tried to apply it over my serums and light moisturizer, it pilled and ruined my routine. I had to wash my face and start over…. At the same time, to play devil’s advocate, I did not use the moisturizer the way it was intended to be used. When used on its own or with the other PanOxyl products reviewed here, it applied beautifully!!

This was my first time trying the PanOxyl Clarifying Exfoliant (~2 weeks), but I will be finishing the bottle and might even purchase another. With 2% salicylic acid it does the job of exfoliating your skin and promoting cell turnover. It is great for reducing the appearance of acne scars and bumps. FYI: BHAs like salicylic acid are my FAVOURITE!! Unlike AHAs they are skinny little bitches that, in addition to working on the skin surface, they also get deep into your pores to exert their effect. You can imagine how much more effective that is at promoting skin cell turnover than to simply work on the skins surface.
On the flip side, having such a high acid content I find that it can be stripping for already dry skin. Personally, I have normal to dry skin so I did not notice any additional dryness contributed by this product. I think might be because this particular product is formulated using various hydrating and soothing ingredients such as: Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Glycerin, Hydroxyacetophenone (an antioxidant that inhibits inflammatory pathways), Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol and Spirulina Platensis (Blue Algae) Extract, and Sodium Citrate Dihydrate for maintaining skin pH. Please note that I have left some preservative and antimicrobial ingredients out but they are important for the longevity of your skincare products!

If you’re not already using this wash as part of your everyday skin care routine then this is your time to start!
The PanOxyl Benzoyl Peroxide daily cleansing wash is a tried-and-true product for me. It truly is effective for keeping acne and small white heads at bay. I do find that this product can be stripping/drying and does not foam well. But I overcome these cons by 1) not combining it with other active ingredients (for example, with toners containing acids – such as the PanOxyl Carlifying Exfoliant or retinol treatments) and 2) by using it only in my morning routine. My rationale is that I usually double cleanse my face at night using an oil cleanser and foaming cleanser, so I don’t really need a foaming cleanser in the mornings. Plus, I usually opt to use active ingredients during my night time routine only so this helps not having to choose one over the other. In addition to those recommendations, I also suggest leaving this wash on face (or your areas of concern) for about 5 minutes before washing it off. I know not many people do this, but I assure that you will get MAXIMUM results if you let the product work before washing it off!
