I loved Carrie at Magnolia's. She did a great job on my hair. I went in there with super shaggy, too long hair, and I walked out looking my age (long hair makes me look way younger than I am). It was a nice, clean salon right on Fairbanks in Winter Park. They offered me wine, tea, or coffee, along with cookies that they had out. They also had an assistant who washed my hair and gave me a head massage (loved it, it was much needed!). People kept checking on me, asking if I wanted anything while I waited. Aside from the usual salon stuff, they also offer parties for kids. Their books of hair styles include photos of real people who have had their hair done in the salon, rather than the books you see at most salons. I paid $60 including tip, which is pretty good considering I tipped my stylist and the assistant who washed my hair. I definitely recommend it! -

I took my boyfriend there last night as a surprise. If you don't already know, she provided the recipes for the desserts at Seasons 52. The cafe was adorable, with low lighting and elegant seating. Our server was very friendly. I had the hot chocolate, which was very good, and the flourless chocolate torte, and my bf had the peanut butter chocolate torte. Both were amazing. Most of the desserts cost around $8, but it was well worth every penny. The Dessert Lady is a great place for a romantic evening or to take friends for a special occasion. -

You might think that Plant City is a little far to go for dinner, but my boyfriend and I have been seeing signs for Branch Ranch on I4 for as long as we can remember. On a recent trip back from Tampa, we decided to stop, and were amazed at how busy it was. Since we were only a part of two, we were seated immediately and treated to homemade buttermilk biscuits with homemade strawberry and pineapple preserves, and a plate of fresh raw vegetables. And let's not forget the amazing sweet tea! The menu had a family style eating option, and you picked an entree and were then served small pans of green beans, corn on the cob, fried eggplant, and chicken pot pie. I had the fried chicken and it was awesome, and my bf had the prime rib, which was better than Ruth's Chris (he says haha). But it was like 16-20 oz. of beef and tasted amazing. Definitely what I'm getting next time. Then I ordered a strawberry short cake, made with fresh strawberries (which are in season right now in Plant City) and a fresh buttermilk biscuit. So if you see the sign stop at Branch Ranch! It's definitely worth the trip. -

I'm not the biggest burger fan, but I LOVE these burgers. Five Guy's is in Dr. Phillips, close to where I work, and how can you resist going to a place with real sweet tea and you can throw peanut shells on the floor? The burgers and fries are huge, all beef, with fresh french fries (like actually made from the potato...never frozen!). The regular burgers are double patties, and the "little burgers" are single patties. If you don't like burgers, there are hot dogs. Try it if you've never been! -

Being from Miami, I miss the Cuban food I grew up with (and I'm not even Cuban!). As soon as we walked in, it felt like home. The inside of the restaurant looks like a an old cantina. Bongo's was wonderful. The staff was great, and we were seated on the covered outdoor patio. It was a little warm, but the fans kept us cool. Our server was quick and very helpful, directing us to the papa rellena, which was amazing. The food was very authentic, and tasted just like it was supposed to (lots of mojo!). Props to Gloria Estefan for bringing a little bit of Miami to Orlando! It's definitely my new favorite restaurant. You can get a different thing every time and love everything you've eaten! There's live music on weekend nights, and make sure you try the pina colada. It has real coconut milk! -
