I too went to the Marc Anthony Salon in Yorkville as part of the media event for Beautylicious. I chose this salon because it has been on my list of salons to try as I kind of bounce around. The place is very chic, much what you would expect a Yorkville salon to look like. I thought the receptionist to be a little snotty which always bewilders me because the receptionist is usually the salon`s first point of contact. So, right then I was a little turned off.
My hair stylist I thought was nice but I found after he found out I was a media appt. he stopped being chatty. I felt like I was always starting the conversations and there were a lot of awkward moments. I felt his consultation was ok - didn`t really see what I like to do with my hair, what my lifestyle is like, etc. which I think is important to ask. I was booked in for an all over colour and cut but he suggested that I add a few highlights to brighten up my look. I stuck with a deep chocolate brown which I like but the caramel highlights I`m not sure I`m into. I have had a solid colour for a long time so it`ll just take some time to get used to. For my cut, he automatically assumed I just wanted a trim which told me that he didn`t want to spend too much time on me. I agreed and just told him to trim my side swept bangs.
Overall, I think because I`ve worked in a Yorkville salon and know what really good customer service is like, my experience with Marc Anthony was mediocre - especially for a media event. At the end, the receptionist had to double check that my service was complimentary - they didn't seem very prepared. When she checked that it was complimentary she said it was fine and barely gave said a proper good-bye or "hope you enjoyed your visit". Anyways, I probably won't be back!

Love the single shadows from NARS. There are so many colours to choose from that it can be overwhelming but you'll be sure to find something you like. Shadows are highly pigmented and come in a variety of textures. Long-lasting and crease free too. I love layering these over cream shadows as well or wearing wet as a liner. They blend beautifully as well. They are a bit pricier than MAC's shadows but I love the slim compact it comes in - easier for stacking in a kit or your makeup bag. You still get a lot of product as well. I only own a few from the line but plan on collecting more! -

When I'm looking for a variety of of shadow shades there are only a couple of lines I turn to and NARS is one of them! Their shadow collection is huge and comes in a variety of gorgeous shades and textures. These powders are highly pigmented and don't crease or fade. Very versatile in that you can layer over cream shadows or apply wet for more intensity. I love the duo concept because it takes the guesswork out of matching shades. They come in slim black compacts so it's great for transporting plus a mirror. It's pricey for a duo but the quality is totally worth it especially if you do makeup for a living. I wish I could own every single one but will have to collect slowly...a staple in my kit is Key Largo, a pale peach and shimmering bronze. -

Gloss and lipstick in one - LOVE! This sheer gloss stick gives your lips extreme shine and drenches your lips in moisture. This is a great gloss stick on-the-go when you want a lot of shine and sheer colour. I love the way it feels on the lips, although I wish the moisturizing factor lasted longer. I have Iced Lychee, a sheer pinky-coral that gave my lips a bit of colour, but I prefer using it over top of a stain for more colour and moisture. While I've become a fan of this gloss stick, I'm not sure I would pay $30 USD for a sheer lip colour! -

I received a few of these to test out and I was not really impressed. I usually love their glosses and other lipsticks but this one turned me off. The original Colour Riche lipstick line now comes with an anti-aging serum in the middle of the lipstick. The texture is creamy and they have some gorgeous colours - my favourite is Wined Up. But the scent/flavour of it is too strong for my liking and is what made me wipe it off within seconds of applying it. It smells and taste like you're wearing lotion on your lips. The anti-aging serum is designed to fill in fine lines and make the lips look plumper and fuller. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to really test it since I couldn't stand the smell on my lips! -

This is one palette where you will find yourself using everything! Benefit's Celebutante: Personal Stylist Makeup Kit is for the makeup lover that wants to look polished with no fuss. The colours are neutral enough to look great on anyone. This kit is part of Benefit's Holiday line up. Any gal pal/makeup lover will love receiving this as a gift! It's no surprise the packaging is oh-so-adorably-chic - no need to wrap! Included in the kit is: High Beam Luminescent Complexion Enhancer, Benetint, Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain (rose), Dallas, The Outdoor Glow For The Indoor Gal Face Powder (rosy bronze), Lip Gloss in I'm With The Band (golden pink shimmer), Full-Finish Lipstick in Lady's Choice (pinky nude), Full-Finish Lipstick in No Competition (deep plum), Velvet Eyeshadow in Leggy (pink nude satin), Velvet Eyeshadow in Dandy Brandy (copper spice) - Fluff Shadow/Talent Brush- Step-By-Step Lesson.
It's definitely an amazing value. I love everything especially the shadows - great for a neutral look and lasts all day! I was surprised when the shadow didn't fade. All the colours in this palette work really together. It's a classic palette that I'll be using for a long time (or until it runs out!).

We were in the mood for some fresh pasteries when we came across COBS Bread in The Bloor West Village area. This was one of the few bakeries open on Thanksgiving Day. As soon as you walk in you are hit with fresh baked bread - love that smell! Everything is made fresh and on location. If you love baguettes then this is the place for you! Their pain au chocolat is very crispy and buttery and you could taste the quality of chocolate. Their cinnamon buns are cinnamon-y and sinfully drenched in icing - sugar rush! We also tried a chocolate scone which my son loved very much (he chose it). The girls were very friendly and surprising perky for working on a holiday! Definitely will be returning! -

My husband and I love bakeries - especially french bakeries! We had been meaning to try Patisserie Saint Honore as soon as we moved to The Kingsway area in Etobicoke. It's a tiny little bakery and doesn't have the look or feel of a bakery in Paris, but definitely has the taste of an authentic french bakery! The bakery is known for their crispy, buttery croissants and their delectable crispy pains au chocolats. Don't be rubbed the wrong way by the owner, Jean-Jacques. He's a crazy french man who will try to up-sell you on buying more. Apparently he's always drunk which now looking back was probably the case. And it has been said to beware of anything with meat! Otherwise, he knows how to make the tastiest croissants and pain au chocolats in town! -

Another fave of mine from Stila. This is definitely a staple in my beauty stash. I received a mini gift set of 3 in: Black Cat, Bronze, and Gray. This gel formula glides on the eyes easily whether you're giving it sexy definition or smoking them out. It is also long-lasting. I love layering underneath powder shadows as well for extra drama. When I'm in a hurry and want a little colour and definition I take a brush and smudge the Bronze shade close to the lash line and into the crease. Want to get the other shades as well. A little goes a long way so it'll last for a while. The only downside is that if you don't close the cap tightly it will dry out. -

I too received this as a b-day gift from the hubby in hot pink! Love all the colours but the pink is so me. It's so tiny and light it's great for traveling. Sound quality is amazing and the screen is small but not too small you have to squint. Picture quality is fantastic on it. I am a transit girl so I take this everywhere with me. It gives me sanity on those crowded morning subway rides - without it I'd probably deck someone! -
