This eyeliner is one of many new drugstore versions of popular department store brand cream and gel eyeliners. Revlon, Loreal, and Maybelline have all come out with their own line of gel eyeliners and the quality of each of these eyeliners differ from brand to brand. I was excited to see Wet n' Wild eyeliners come to Canada as many makeup videos on Youtube have commented on these eyeliners which as far as I know come in Black and Eggplant. I purchased the eggplant. These come with a small angled brush which was too thick for me to use properly, however it would probably be sufficient for many people.
Pro's
1. Price: This was $6.98 CDN for 3.8 grams, compared to the $10.00 Maybelline tag and the $18.00 MAC price. Right away the low price tag makes this affordable for those on a budget.
2. Long Lasting: I tried the old back of the hand test and was shocked to see how long this eyeliner lasted. It was even going strong after 2 soapy hand washes. On the eyelid this lasted about 5 hours without much fading, however by the 6th hour it had definitely transferred a bit to the upper lid. This problem could have been solved by using a good primer underneath like Urban Decay Primer Potion.
3. Packaging: The packaging is a small plastic container which I felt unsure of before as all of my other gel and cream liners were packaged in a glass container that is designed to keep the product fresher longer. I can say that so far I have not experienced any drying out of the product and I do enjoy how compact the container is.
Cons:
Colors: There is a real lack of different colors for this product. If you already have a black and purple in your collection you will have no luck with this brand. Also, I did find the purple to be decidedly cool toned with its violet tones which did not do much justice to my warm undertones. This was not a major problem for me though because I did still end up enjoying the color.
Brush Included: As mentioned earlier the brush is not a great one as it is thick and difficult to use to create a smooth, thin line. This maybe, therefore, be a good starter brush that you can use to practice with instead of keeping around forever.
Consistency: The liner is a much thinner consistency that I found Mac's fluidlines to be and this can cause a problem with ensuring an even application with the product as because it was so thin I found it moved around a bit on my eyelid while I was trying to put it on and I ended up having to add extra product to fix up the uneven line.
TOTAL: 7.5/10
I would recommend this liner to a first time gel eyeliner user as it is a good basic product at a great price point. I believe that if I had gotten the black the rating would have gone up but I just found the eggplant color to be slightly underwhelming and not much of an amazing color. However, the product is a long lasting and easy to use formula.
