Acne scarring forced me to rethink my foundation needs. After years of using power, I was forced to move up to the strong stuff. After weeks of searching I discovered Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation. This medium to full coverage foundation is perfect for covering up uneven skin tone, leaving you with a beautiful matte finish.
The best thing about the product is the range of shades available (I only support makeup companies that are inclusive in their offerings). Even though I wear sunblock, my skin colour is dramatically different in the winter than it is in the summer, so I always have to buy two different shades. And being a person of colour finding a company that makes that two shades close enough to pull this off is rare (at least in Canada). If you wear liquid foundation, you must go to Sephora or the Bay and try this stuff. It's pricey ($40 a bottle) but It’s flawless and worth it. I love it!

I do have quite a few make-up obsessions, and mascara is one of them. Unlike my bronzer problem, I prefer drugstore brands to “prestige” labels. I go through mascara too frequently to be spending $30 on the stuff. Although once every couple of years I do go out and by the "good stuff," just to make sure I’m not missing anything.
Lately mascara has been the bane of my existence. I’m not sure but my eyelashes don’t seem to be as thick as they used to be. So mascara has been a must for me. I used to adore Maybelline’s Great Lash, but lately, there has been nothing great about my lashes.
I went back to L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in black. I haven’t used this stuff in years, and at first I wondered why I left. L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara gave me thick and long lashes. I had forgotten what thick and long lashes look like.
The only draw back, the reason I stopped using it in the first place, after about a week of use, the mascara isn’t the same. It starts to clump more, but for those gorgeous lashes, I may start buying this product on a bi-weekly basis.

I'm a moisturizer junkie. I have acne prone skin, but it tends to be dry. Also I can suffer from hyper-pigmentation. The Body Shop's Illuminating Face Treatment with Kinetin, is the (almost) perfect moisturizer. It is light weight and non-greasy but the best thing about it, is the improvement you see in your skins texture and pigmentation. It evens out your skin tone! It does have one drawback. It contains mica, to "illuminate your skin". Translated, it gives your skin an odd pink tone in certain light. Fortunately my foundation gets rid of it, unfortunately in the summertime, I cannot use this stuff, because I tend to leave my foundation in the makeup drawer. -

I’m obsessed with bronzer. OBSESSED. Which is funny because I’m a black girl. But my Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Deep is quietly being replaced (don’t tell her) with Nars Bronzing Powder in ‘Casino’. I love it. It has shimmer, which I hate, but it so subtle, and the colour is so warm. It’s heaven in a compact. -

Two years ago I started breaking out with acne. For a girl who went through high school with no more than 10 pimples, and never more than two at a time, this was a tragedy. Epic tragedy, actually. I swear Hollywood could have turned it into an Oscar winning movie.
I tried everything. The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Line –it was okay but it didn’t stop the breakouts. Proactive which stopped the breakout initially, but dried out my skin and then stopped working altogether. Then I tried Murad. God Bless Dr. Murad where ever he is.
Murad Clarifying Cleanser is the best. Finally, an acne cleanser that doesn’t dry out your skin. I lather up the Clarifying Cleanser and leave it on for about a minute, to kill all the bacteria (I usually brush my teeth while I’m waiting). My skin feels beautiful afterwards. Not dry, not oily. Perfect. Added bonus, it controls the acne too!
At $35, it seems pricy, but you don’t need much, and it lasts almost ninety days.
