I've been using Natural Calm Magnesium Citrate Powder for a couple weeks now and will never be without it again!!
I bought the unflavoured version which took a little bit to get used to but after a couple days it was a normal part of my nightly routine. Since taking it I've noticed a big difference in my quality of sleep + lower stress levels despite an incredibly stressful couple of weeks. Both of these are benefits of the Magnesium Powder. Sometimes I make this in to gummies (pictured) and eat them as a little snack before bed.

Flawless skin – few of us have it and we all want it. I am quite blessed by my fairly clear complexion, despite how pale it may be. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t take work (& a lot of lotions and potions) to achieve the perfected porcelain look I like to sport when I am lucky enough to achieve it.
When I was younger, even if I wasn’t going out I would always at least wear foundation & powder with mascara in case anyone dropped by or there a moment for an impromptu .. dare I say – selfie. Although I thought I was treating my skin pretty good with my intensive skin care routine & lack of heavy makeup all the time, but I really wasn’t. It wasn’t until I was a little bit older (and dare I say wiser) that I learned about the dangers that lurk in everyday skincare & makeup.
One I started learning about all of these ingredients that are in so many popular products I was totally shocked that unless you specifically look for products without them they are in everything! Parabens, phthalates , silicone, fragrance, and my biggest no-go ingredient: talc. I don’t want to go into this too much in this post because to be honest this is an ‘Alice down the rabbit hole’ topic for me and this could turn in to a thesis if I start. What I do want to mention though is that it only takes 26 seconds for the products on your skin to enter your blood stream. That’s everything from hairspray, perfume, and lotion to lipstick, eye shadow, and yes, face powder.
As mentioned above, talc is a no go ingredient for me. Shockingly, it seems like it’s in almost every powdered make up item sold apparently. Finally, I was lucky to do some reading about mineral make up and how it is more pure and (usually) doesn’t contain talc. After trying a couple of brands I was lucky (and thankful) to discover Alima Pure.
Alima Pure is one of the few American companies that has the BDIH “Certified Natural Cosmetics” seal of approval. In a nut shell it means that they use the best mineral ingredients and that they are environmentally responsible in their manufacturing (which I LOVE!!). Since Alima Pure uses only pure minerals with no fragrance, fillers, preservatives, or other scary ingredients it is great for those with sensitive & reactive skin. As an added bonus it won’t clog your pores (yay!).
I wear a couple of Alima products religiously but the main one is my loose Satin Finishing Powder. Being so fair I have a hard time finding any products for my skin tone but Keiko is a flawless match. I apply it after my foundation and it gives me an even more perfected look. It makes my face look almost airbrushed and I get none stop compliments since adding this to my routine. Sometimes if I’m not doing a full face I will still apply it just to my bare skin and it still gives great coverage. Either way that I wear it I always get great long lasting (8+ hour) coverage.
I've been wearing this for 3 years straight and have yet to find another finishing powder that competes!

For years (& years & years) I have been looking for a natural deodorant that doesn't irritate my sensitive underarms and actually works. Easy right? WRONG!!
It seems like all the ones I've tried only do one or the other. Most seem to work well then wear off after three hours at work, so now I get to carry deodorant with me everywhere I go just because none of them seem to last long enough. I've tried crystal rocks, sprays, with baking soda, without baking soda, creams, pastes, powders, clays, you name it - I've tried it when it comes to the natural deodorant realm.
After years of this never ending rotation of natural deodorants I had become quite skeptical. I had heard about Routine Cream a couple times but didn't pay much attention because I just figured it would be another natural deodorant that wouldn't work for me. So I continued with my natural deodorant shuffle until I got a sample of one of their new baking soda free formulas - the curator. What really sucked me in is that it has food grade magnesium in it which your body can absorb and process. Well did that ever pique my interest.
Although I hadn't tried their products yet (and wasn't sure when or if I would) I was already a fan of the company. Routine was created by two sisters, Pippa & Neige (how cute are their names!?!) in Calgary Alberta. As I may have previously mentioned I am a HUGE supporter of Canadian brands + ones that are run by women (yay!). Their deodorants come in an array of options - there are 12 different scents with vegan & baking soda free options. Plus they are cruelty free & only contain awesome ingredients - if you don't know what lurks in commercial drugstore deodorant I urge you to check (hint: known carcinogens).
So, back to the curator.
Once I learned about the magnesium + the baking soda free formula I was sold! Just to be sure and do my due diligence I did try my super cute teeny tiny little sample. It wasn't much but it was enough for me to know I liked the scent & it wasn't going to irritate my sensitive underarm skin. The same night I tried my sample I got an email from well.ca about sales ending soon - and guess who was the highlight of that email. I only had a couple hours to make the decision of whether I was going to splurge and get it - or do like I normally do and talk myself out of it, then regret it, then buy it a couple days later when its not on sale. So I went for it and I saved 20% which considering the price of the curator was a decent savings that I was quite happy about.
I literally tracked my package every day waiting for this deodorant to come. It finally arrived and I broke it out of the box right away. It was just what I expected from the sample I tried and I was actually excited for the morning to add it into my AM 'routine'. ;)
I will be candid - I am not a morning person. For that reason the only thing that I would wish for this product is that there was a stick version for those mornings I'm not 'at my best'. However, as it comes in glass which I much prefer over plastic I just suck it up on those mornings and I'm so used to it now it doesn't even bother me. The deodorant cream is a little hard (as it should be) when you first scoop it out but it massages into the most beautiful silky texture that glides right on to my skin. I usually have to use the amount of between a pea & a dime to provide ample coverage. A little bit goes a long way!
It smells very natural which is to be expected. It contains bergamot (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!), rose geranium, black spruce, eucalyptus, & patchouli essential oils which give it the natural fresh scent with the slightest notes of both floral & spice. Check out the AMAZING list of ingredients below:
Ingredients: cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, magnesium hydroxide (dietary magnesium), kaolinite (kaolin clay), zea mays (corn, non-gmo) starch, maranta arundinacea (arrowroot powder), cera alba (canadian ethical beeswax), theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), calendula officinalis (marigold) infused olea europaea (olive) oil, tocopherol (vitamin e), eucalyptus globulus leaf (eucalyptus) oil, aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, pelargonium roseum asperum (rose geranium) oil, tsuga canadensis leaf (black spruce) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract
I can honestly say that this is the first natural deodorant formula I have actually LOVED! It gives me long lasting protection, doesn't irritate my under arms, and it has super clean ingredients. I know I've mentioned this before but I'm going to say it again - it only takes 26 seconds for the ingredients in your personal care to enter your blood stream so please please please check the ingredient lists! Even if you aren't wanting to switch to 100% natural, deodorant is a must. Commercial deodorants are packed full of carcinogens such as fragrance, aluminum, PEG, parabens, talc, & more. Now that there is finally a natural deodorant that works for me there is no excuse for not using it!! I've used this on office days, I've used it on moving days, dreaded gym days, and everything in between and no matter what I do it keeps me pretty fresh.
Routine Deodorant Creams can be purchased in lots of Health Food Stores across Canada, + well.ca, & their own website. I would highly recommend buying from them directly as their pricing is the best I've seen. They charge $28.00 for this formula (well.ca charges $31.99) for 58ml - at first I was a little nervous about the price tag attached to the deodorant but its so worth it - especially because it will last for 3 - 6 months with regular use.
+ As mentioned previously they have a wide range of scents and formulas (including vegan & baking soda free). As for me - I will forever be loyal to the curator mainly because of its added magnesium! Thanks for reading and I hope if you try Routine De-Odor-Cream that it works just as well for you!

I can't emphasize enough how much I hate doing my hair. Brushing it, drying it, and worst of all styling it - I don't know what it is. It doesn't matter how many Youtube videos I watch or how many products I've purchased to try and copy the magic my hairstylist was able to accomplish - I just don't have the skills. Luckily when I use the right shampoo & conditioner my hair looks great down & I am able to kill the perfect messy bun & sleek ponytail.
I've been using natural SLS free products for years and my hair & scalp couldn't be happier.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a set of Carina Organics Citrus Shampoo & Conditioner. Right off the bat I'm a huge fan of anything natural and anything citrus + the packaging was super simple and clean which I love! Plus they are Canadian and are located so close to my home and I can't say enough how much I love supporting local companies. First thing I did when I opened it was of course smell it and OH MY GOD! It seriously smells like a tropical paradise. Although it is citrus it smells a lot like pineapple which I LOVE! It's amazing smell comes from Tangerine Oil, Green Apple Extract, & Pineapple Extract. I have been using both the shampoo and conditioner for about two weeks now and here are my thoughts on these two natural beauties.
As previously mentioned this shampoo smells like a tropical paradise and I know it will be in my summer rotation of bath products. In the summer I wash my hair daily - as this product is intended to be used. However, in the colder months (which it has been since I started using it) I usually only wash my hair once every 2 - 3 days. That being said I did wash it daily for four days so I could truly test it for how it's supposed to be used - and for this it worked great.
It doesn't form what I would say is a rich lather unless I use a lot (and I mean A LOT) but when your hair is still pretty clean and doesn't need that deep cleanse it works just fine. It's also SLS free which is part of the reason it doesn't lather as much as traditional shampoo. I have found I need to use about a full palms worth so I've been going through it quite quickly. If your hair is in need of more of a deep clean I don't think I would recommend this shampoo for that purpose. But when used daily it leaves my hair nice and soft and very shiny.
It is meant for dry, chemically or colour treated hair - none of which I have so it makes it impossible to address those points. The fact that it is made with organic ingredients, SLS free, smells amazing, and is gentle enough for daily use are all big wins in my book. Other than the lack of lather the only other thing I could ask from this product is that it not contain palm oil (in case you didn't know palm oil is one of the most destructive ingredients on the planet - but that's a story for another day).
