Initially overwhelmed and confused of each separate key ingredient and reluctant to undertake a complicated, multi-step AM/PM skincare regimen, I searched reviews by Dermatologists, make-up artists and in some wonderful beauty-oriented Facebook groups and thought I’ve try The Ordinary. “Buffet” is a wonderful, simple peptide serum that glides on smoothly and quenches your complexion. Simply apply it am and pm after cleansing, then add any other moisturizer on top. For only $6.80 with the highest quality ingredients and a wonderful clear, smoothe texture, adding this one little extra step to your beauty routine will show results in just a few days. -

After becoming rather addicted to lipbalms over a long winter in a very chilly, dry century house in the middle of nowhere, I came across Clinique’s Pop Splash Lip Gloss on a trip to the nearest Sephora (1.5 hours away). The colours and pigment retention is excellent, without bleeding, staining or build-up. Goes on easily, not too sticky, definitely not greasy or gluey, and the best shades for 2019. I love it and will definitely buy again. -

I stumbled across Lipidol quite by accident. I had never heard of it before, and saw it on a very simple end cap display in the cosmetics section at a store. Winters at our elevation and in a century house with forced air can be very drying to skin. Throw in aging, sensitive skin, to boot, and the challenge to gently cleanse without drying out is on. Lipidol goes on easily and foams a little with water. I massage it on my face - keep it away from your eyes! - & use a warm, damp face cloth to take it off. A little goes a long way. It’s not meant as a make-up remover, but as a bare face, hydrating cleanser it does the trick. I would buy this again. Anothet plus is it’s a Canadian product. Shop Canadian! -

I first tried this years ago. Let me explain... I have fibromyalgia with, at times, heavy duty chronic muscle & nerve pain, after a serious horse riding accident, years ago, where I damaged my shoulder, neck & was knocked unconscious. Not many topical pain creams even make a dent in it. Matter: Outdoors After Sports Heat Rub is my favourite. Just opening the tin that the salve comes in and breathing in its heavenly, all natural scent helps me feel better right off the bat! It does not burn, feel icy or redden the skin. It’s warm, spicy aroma is relaxing and comforting, and my sore, aching muscles feel better within minutes. A little goes a long way. It’s also wonderful to know one is supporting a small Canadian business at the same time as being dedicated to one of their products that makes my pain lessen and helps me feel better :) -

With dry & sensitive cream, I was looking for a base cream that I could work with to add just a drop or two of tried & true natural essences to to create a topical cream for pain. While this cream (without the tried & true natural essences) did not irritate my sensitive skin, the Glaxal Base chemical ingredients have an overpowering laboratory chemical smell that made me smell like a medicine cabinet. Family actoss the room commented on the pong. I won’t be using this again! -

With winter on my doorstep and dry, aging skin my concetn, I stocked up on a few moisturizing creams a few weeks ago to be proactive. Aging, dry skin is not for sissies, particularly in the Bruce region of Ontario, which although stunningly beautiful, is pummelled by einter at least a month longer than Toronto. I opted for Total Effects Whip during the day, and another deep moisturizer by another brand at night. Total Effects Whip has a beautiful, light, easily absorbed texture that really is a luxe whip. I was especially keen on its matte finish, so that I can wear it under makeup without a greasy shine. My only small grumble is that I am not in love with its perfumed scent - I may be an ‘old lady’ but hey, I was a punk, and a Mod and a New Waver in the 1980s, and certainly do NOT love ‘old lady’ perfumes. ;) If I could change one thing about Olay Total Effects Whip, it would be to either change the scent to some lighter, fresher & more modern smelling, or preferably to an unscented formula. Other than that I love it and will use it until the cream pot is completely empty! -

This is wonderful stuff. Light, freshly scented and a joy to use with a bath puff or loofah. I will absolutely be getting this again! -

Un Jardin Sur le Nil was my first go-to for daywear. Reason? It has a topnote of Cardamom seed, a light, aromatic, almost peppery spice that is exotic but not overpowering. I adore it, as it brings back wonderful memories of my grandmothers baking without smelling like confectionery, cake, or other uber-sweet, cloying, ‘sticky’ smells.
If light and sophistocated is what you are looking for, give this a try!

Fact Of Life: As I have aged, I have found my skin has become drier. Having said that, I am also VERY fussy about what I will buy & try: avoiding parabens, extremely particular about scents, greasiness and texture of body lotions, as well as value for money. This lotion has really fit the bill, for me.
It goes on easily without feeling greasy, is absorbed really quickly, and relieves the prickly feeling of dry skin. The scent is not bad, and on the light side, so doesn’t have a lingering fragrance that might clash with one’s perfume or cologne.
Would definitely buy again!

I purchased a multipack of Eos Lip Balms earlier this year at Costco in Canada at an excellent price point, and love nearly every one. The Grapefruit one is one of my all time faves, and I keep it in my purse. The SPF makes it indispensable during the summer on sunny days and as a huge fan of citrus and grapefruit in particular, I love the scent/taste.
I’ve noticed that the Eos lip balms with SPF, however, are not as quenchingly moisturizing as their others, and so this needs to be re-applied a bit more often. That is no problem for me, but just a little heads-up. You might find otherwise. Enjoy!
