You can customize how spicy each dish is with their # of chillis system (i don't recommend going over 3 chillies!). I didn't like their hot and sour soup so much, but everything else is AMAZING.
There is a dish not on the menu called "Thai Islamic Noodles" which is like pad thai but with a creamy peanutty sauce. LOVE IT.
If you are on a date and want a different kind of atmosphere, upstairs from Salad King is a nicer version of the exact same restaurant. It is a little more per item, but the food is bascially the same. It is called Linda and you usually have to call ahead for a reservation.

This place exceeded my expectations, but I must admit I kind of thought it might suck. There are two levels of students open the public and I chose the pricier, more experienced ones. I got a colour touchup, partial highlights, and a cut. After tax it was about $75. Not bad, considering it would be around $150 for three of these things at another place. The only annoying thing is it takes a long time. If you need a colour/highlights and a cut, they book them over an hour apart.
The girl didn't quite do it right the first time she did my highlights, and so actually that hour came in handy - she redid them. The first set of highlights was too close to my natural haircolour so you couldn't see them but she redid them, did an awesome job on lowlights too and the cut was actually fantastic. The ambiance is good. Lots of magazines, coffee, tea, free hand massages, and apparently Aveda Academy does free bang trims if you got your hair cut there. No appt. needed just walk in, done in 10-15 minutes. So I am planning to go back.
Haircuts here start as low as $14 in the Junior salon, and around $20 in the more experienced one, and the cut was great. They are mostly young girls, but I like that they all have a good sense of style and many of them are up on the latest trends just having finished their training.
Again, the only annoying thing is you have to book a few weeks in advance and it can take a long time.

It's an eclectic small place that is crammed by 10am. If you just want eggs and toast, you might as well go next door to the College St. Diner, but this place is more gourmet. It's not TOO expensive. Most things are between $8-$12 including a coffee. The homefries are garlicky. They do offer options with only an egg or two and a side of salad with awesome, fresh mustard dressing. This place is a vegetarian paradise too with tons of fruity pancakes, vegan waffles, and lots of veggie omelettes. They offer soy everything.
THey do still have good meat though - fresh bacon, sausages and the like.
On the north side of College, just east of Bathurst...

They always do a totally amazing job on my hair, but it is expensive. The best colourist I've had is Daniela. She can do a lot of trendy colours, and is awesome with highlights, lowlights, and funky colours like reds. The place and the products they use smell great and it is also a spa so they can do things like manicures.
I agree it is pricey. A cut is like $60+ and cut and highlights is over $100. I have dabbled at other places and Soho has never let me down! It's too bad for my wallet though!!!
BTW, this is a spa in a mall - Sherway Gardens - which is suburban swanky, but not so much that you will feel out of place.

This place is located at Bloor and Brunswick on the south side. Due to a nasty fire, the whole place had to be renovated and it looks very nice now. The best prices are actually the lunch specials - $5.99 for a bento box, soup and salad! Coming at dinner time, you can still score a good bargain with the bento boxes, and eat for under $10. However, picking rolls a la carte is a bit more expensive, but they are all delicious. My favourites are the dynamite rolls, and their sushi pizza. After dinner, they usually offer free ice cream too. Packed many weekday evenings around 7, and on the weekend from 6-9. So prepare to wait about 10 minutes in line, or call ahead and make reservations! Best quality sushi! -
