I'd heard many great things about the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation (liquid foundation), but I was always on the fence about it's price --$42.00 I'm the sort of gal that peruses the aisles at Shopper's Drug Mart and picks up a $15 foundation by Maybelline and calls it a day. I truly love makeup, but at a frugal price.
Nonetheless, I purchased the Lock it Foundation as most of it's reviews were pretty good, and I desperately needed a full coverage foundation, STAT. And let me just say that finding a full coverage foundation is actually a pretty hard thing to do--most of them will settle into lines, or dry out your face to the point where your face becomes itchy. But this one? NONE of that happened!
There were so many shades to choose from (thank god, because I'm certain that my skin colour is way too unique--i can NEVER find a shade that'll fit me perfectly) and there's even a matching concealer line from Kat von D with the same name, so matching a concealer to your foundation is literally so easy!
One thing I'll admit though -- the foundation dries up pretty quickly on your face, which in turn makes it hard to blend out afterwards. For example, I'll dot my face with the foundation, and start at my chin, then blend everywhere else. But when I'd get to my cheeks or my forehead, the foundation had already dried itself in place, so blending it out at that point so no easy task. I'd recommend applying the foundation per area, as you're going along.
Overall, great purchase, but not fond of the price!

Not too long ago, my mother bought the Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45 from Sephora. I'm the type of person to go into her room, and, hehe, try out her makeup and brushes too. When I saw the brush, I was a bit skeptycal because it was a Sephora Collection. Don't get me wrong--I absolutely love Sephora, but when it comes to brushes, for some really weird reason, I like to get them from big brands, like Bobbi Brown, NARS, or Estée Lauder. Weird, right? I think I do that because in my mind, store brand products aren't as performing and amazing as actual brand products. Well, was I ever wrong! And gladly so, too!
I had tried my mother's Sephora #45 brush without telling her, of course (!), but instead of using it with mineral powder, which I don't use because my face is extremely dry, I used it with my Estée Lauder liquid foundation. Let me just tell you, this is the best brush I have EVER used. I cannot stress this enough. At $34 dollars, it's reasonably priced, and it gives you the most AMAZING airbrushed look.
I know that normally, animal-hair brushes are used with liquid foundations, and that this brush has synthetic hairs, but to me, it does the job. I use it on my face after my moisturizer, I let it sink into my skin for 2 minutes, then I drop some foundation onto my wrist, tap it with my brush, and brush it onto my skin using circular movements.
Three days ago, I went out to Sephora and bought it for myself. While there, I quickly scanned other foundation brushes, which were either too expensive, or I just didn't trust them. When I told the sales clerk I was going to use it with my liquid foundation, she looked at me as if I was crazy... she kind of made ajn "uh-oh" face, kind of like this :S I know it's meant to use with mineral powder, but I can't help the fact that it makes my face look like a million bucks! I mean, it really is THAT good! So out of Sephora I went, with my amazing brush, a set of false lashes, and my DUO black eyelash adhesive (which I will review shortly).
When I arrived home, I went on the Sephora website (www.sephora.ca) and looked at the brush reviews. Turns out, it's a bestseller, and some people even commented that when they use it with their liquid foundation, their face looks as if it were photoshopped. Here's one comment from lenniep, whose a Sephora Beauty Insider: "I use this brush to put my liquid foundation on with. It's great for this and my makeup looks flawless. The quality is excellent. I would recommend this. I even bought a second one."
The bristles are so so soft, it is easy to hold, and the results are great. Sephora.ca even says that the"brush's bristles have undergone a hypoallergenic, nontoxic, antibacterial treatment that helps to keep skin healthy and suits all skin types, even the most sensitive." Another plus!
I highly recommend this brush!
You can purchase the brush at sephora.ca, or sephora.com. If you're a skeptic, go on the website, or visit the store, check out the brush, and let yourself be tempted.
