Mascara is quite possibly my favourite kind of make up. I always considered my eyes to be my best physical feature so mascara was a go to product for me. Over the years I have tried many different brands and formulas. I have my favourites. Now that I’m in my 40s my Irish eyes are not always their brightest, especially if I haven’t had enough sleep. These days I look for more age appropriate products, such as Covergirl’s Simply Ageless line of make up.
I wore Covergirl Simply Ageless Lash Plumping 3 in 1 Primer Serum Mascara every day for 9 days in a row to test on our family vacation. We went from Winnipeg to the Vancouver area where it was unusually hot and humid. This was the only mascara I packed with me on our trip – I liked it that much. I have to say my eyes looked more opened and refreshed after wearing this product. My lashes felt very soft. This must be the 3 in 1 Primer and Serum at work. Only on one very hot day, I saw in the photos, that this mascara had smudged off making a mess under my eyes. I had no complaints the other days. In fact, despite only wearing one or two coats, I found this mascara a bit hard to completely take off with my gentle eye make up remover.
This mascara is easy to use. The primer/serum felt light, almost weightless, on my lashes. This mascara is infused with Hyaluronic Complex and Bamboo Serum. I usually just apply one or two good coats to my lashes, giving them a more natural look. This mascara is buildable so applying a few coats does deepen the look and provides more volume. The applicator is nice. The brush creates an almost feathered, defined look, by separating lashes with little clumping. The length this mascara provides is just OK. I like my lashes a bit longer. The volume is natural looking. My lashes normally have a slight curl to them, and the design of the brush helped to hold that curl. The purple container is not too small and is easy to spot in my cluttered make up bag.
Since I’ve been home from our family vacation I have continued to use this product. I would absolutely purchase this mascara! I’m curious to see how my lashes look after a month of using this product, as Covergirl promises “Thicker, Longer, Stronger lashes in 4 weeks”. I recommend this mascara for every day wear, and especially to those over 35 years old looking to treat their lashes while wearing mascara.

My game night playing family was very excited to test drive Cardinal Games Zillionaires Road Trip USA from the Spin Master Game Collection. It’s by Big Potato Games. We got this new board game for free from the Family Rated Club through the Butterly and Chick Advisor program, in exchange for my honest review.
Zillionaires Road Trip USA is a fun, quick to learn, family game for ages 8+, and for 2-5 players. The object of the game is to “Bid, Bluff and Buy Up America’s Legendary Roadside Attractions”. It features 49 real life roadside attractions, such as “The World’s Largest Toilet” and “The International Banana Museum”. The weird landmarks are described on “The Legendary 49” fact sheet included in the game. The first player to purchase four properties in a row on the game board (either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins! Just don’t get caught in a bidding war - which will happen! This game is kind of like Monopoly, but more silly.
Zillionaires Road Trip USA is quick to setup, and also easy to understand. It wasn’t long before my husband, myself, and our 9-year-old son settled into the game. Our dog was happy to lay at our feet under the dinning room table, while we excitedly bid on quirky properties, threw zillions of dollars around, and banged the wooden gavel when a property was sold. My son won the first round we played. An important tip in the game is to hide your money from the other players, so that they don’t know how much money you have to bid with. When my son was about to bid on his winning forth property in a row, he slowly lifted his zillions from under the table and said “Here’s the money...!”
My only beef with Zillionaires Road Trip USA is that it is described as the “North American” Edition, but it only features US American landmarks. We would love to play a Canadian version of Zillionaires Road Trip. I recommend this game to anyone over 8 years old, who enjoy playing a quality family board game.

Thank you Chick Advisor and Butterly for selecting me to review the pHisoderm CLEAN Sensitive Skin Cream Facial Cleanser. I got this product for free! I was sent an Amazon.ca gift card to cover the complete cost of the product and shipping. I ordered a full sized 177ml bottle of pHisoderm CLEAN Sensitive Skin Cream Facial Cleanser from Amazon.ca as soon as I could. It wasn’t long before I was trying out this gentle cleanser.
I used this formulated clean product to wash my face and neck, twice daily for about 10 days, before completing my review. This soothing, pH-balanced, dermatologist-tested cleanser claims to be “suitable for most skin types, especially sensitive skin with chronic conditions such as Eczema and Rosacea”. It’s also well suited for normal to dry, and mature skin.
I have sensitive, sometimes dry, sometimes combination skin. My skin can get red and itchy, especially during the long dry winter months. I found pHisoderm CLEAN Sensitive Skin Cream Facial Cleanser to be very gentle on my skin. I had zero irritation. My skin didn’t feel tight. My colouring looked more balanced, with a bit less redness. To me this product has a very mild oat soap like smell to it. My only complaint is that this cleanser doesn't lather very well. It doesn’t have much foaming action, despite cleansing well. It’s easy to use too much product, as it is somewhat runny in texture. This product did a good job taking off my makeup. It rinsed off easily, and left behind no residue. It left my sensitive skin soft, moisturized, and clean. I am comfortable using this product daily.
It contains NO: fragrances, parabens, soap, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil, or sulfates. It claims to “thoroughly remove dirt, oil and makeup while moisturizing and soothing skin”. It contains Sunflower Seed Oil, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, and a special skin conditioner to help “reduce skin redness, inflammation, and itch.” This pHisoderm CLEAN cleanser claims to leave your skin feeling “refreshed, bright and hydrated”. It balances skin to “improve the overall health of your skin, clarity, and texture”.
I would absolutely buy this affordable, gentle yet effective, cleanser again. I recommend it to everyone, as it is suitable for All Skin Types.

This is a wonderful green product. Garnier “commits to Green Beauty”. The packaging is made of 100% recyclable cardboard with Zero Plastic Waste. 97% Biodegradable. Cruelty-Free. Fast-rinse formula to help save water. This product is 94% Plant-Based. Made without animal-derived ingredients, preservatives and soap silicone. It is blended with plant-based ingredients, oat milk, and rice cream.
This product claims to “soften, nourish, and provide full care for your hair”. Initially I found the scent coming from the box overwhelming. I would give this product 5 stars if it wasn’t for the very strong fragrance. The scent was not bad smelling, just far too strong until the bar was wet.
I have used solid shampoo bars before. This shampoo bar was easy to use, and very gentle on my hair and skin. I wet my hair and the bar. The bar foamed quickly and the shampoo lathered very well. The product rinsed out quickly, as promised, and left no residue. It left my hair clean, tangle free, and lightly scented. My hair did not feel weighed down. My hair wasn’t left greasy or dried out. My scalp didn’t feel irritated or tight. I did not need to follow up with a conditioner. You could use this shampoo bar on your “bits & pits” if needed, as it was that gentle. Tried it.
I recommend storing the shampoo bar in a tin to keep it protected. This product should last a long time, up to “2 months or 48 uses” according to Garnier, if kept dry. Very cost effective, averaging under $6 a bar at most stores. I would absolutely buy this product and recommend it to everyone. If you are already a Garnier Whole Blends fan, definitely give this shampoo bar a try.

I was happy to try a 1.5ml sample of Covergirl Clean Fresh Skincare Weightless Water Cream. I got it for free from Chick Advisor/Butterly’s Mass Sampling Campaign. I applied the entire sample of this cream to my freshly cleansed face, and used it as a moisturizer. This product claims to offer “72HR Hydration”. You can also use Covergirl Weightless Water Cream as a Primer. My skin needs the hydration, especially during these long dry cold winter months. The scent is mild and pleasant enough. It does smell a bit like coconut and citrus. The packaging says that this product is “supercharged with electrolyte rich TruClean” (not sure what this is) cactus water and hyaluronic acid. It promises softer, smoother skin, and “hydration for days”. It certainly did moisturize my skin. It looks and feels like a gel-cream. Some gels can be drying, but this gel had a creamy texture. The product initially absorbed quickly into my skin, but left my face a bit sticky feeling. Perhaps I could have put less product on. It did not irritate my sometimes sensitive skin. It is suitable for all skin types. I like that this product is Cruelty Free, 100% Vegan and 90% naturally derived ingredients. Overall I think this Covergirl Weightless Water Cream did a good job moisturizing. The texture is not my favourite, but I do recommend it to people who prefer I light gel like moisturizer cream.

My family was happy to receive a Rubik’s Cube, the Original 3X3 Matching Puzzle from the Spin Master Game Collection. Our 9-year-old son is really getting into puzzle games, and this classic Rubik’s Cube is a perfect fit for the 8-year-old and up crowd. It’s a childhood staple. It’s a toy, puzzle & game all in one. I remember I couldn’t figure out the puzzle when I was a kid, and I still can’t. At least not yet. The challenge is real! “With 43 quintillion combinations”, it’s a very entertaining puzzle. It’s both frustrating and relaxing to play with at the same time! It’s fun to match up the colours. How many sides will you complete? How fast can you solve the puzzle?
I’m happy to see that this version of the original Rubik’s Cube is still a lot like the now vintage Rubik’s Cube from the 1980s. It still has coloured stickers on it, just better-quality and glossier stickers now. Makes it much harder to cheat (without the easy to peel off stickers). Not that I ever tried too cheat at this puzzle…. There is something so timeless and iconic about this humble cube. It’s no wonder the Rubik’s Cube is known as “The World’s No.1 Puzzle”.

My family and I were pleased that we were selected to try Breyers Creamery Style Natural Vanilla Ice Cream. We are a good fit for this product review as we enjoy quality ice cream on a regular basis. Vanilla is my son’s favourite flavour! We love to support Canadian made products and have purchased Breyers ice cream before in both vanilla and chocolate flavours. We redeemed our free voucher from the Family Rated Club for a 1.66L carton of French Vanilla flavoured Breyers Creamery Style Ice Cream.
This is a very creamy ice cream, with almost a whipped texture. It’s made with fresh cream and real vanilla beans. I like how you can see the flecks of black vanilla bean in the ice cream. It looks and tastes real. It is made with all natural flavours and colours. This Breyers ice cream is Gluten Free and is crafted in Canadian Creamery with Antibiotic-Free milk and cream. It’s also “Rainforest Alliance Certified”. This ice cream has a lot to offer. While my husband and I prefer ice creams that have a more grown-up taste, this Creamery Style ice cream really is a hit with our son. He loves the French Vanilla flavour. “Very vanilla-y”. I recommend this sweet treat to all Canadian kids (young and young at heart), anyone looking for a Gluten Free ice cream, and mostly people who love a creamy textured ice cream.

My son and I were happy to review this fun Kinetic Sand Portable Playset from Spin Master toys called "Sandyland". We got it for free from the Family Rated Club through Chick Advisor. The Sandyland playset is made with natural sand, and comes with a total of 2lbs of Kinetic Sand. This includes 1lb of Brown Colored Kinetic Sand, 0.5lb Teal Colored Kinetic Sand, and the crowd pleasing 0.5lb Pink Colored Strawberry Scented Kinetic Sand. Additional sand sold separately. The playset also comes with over 15 Tools, including: 7 Molds for making sweet treats (like cupcakes, cookies & ice cream cones); 2 Stamps; 6 Toppings; a sheet of cardboard Punch-Outs, & one Spatula. We both like the handy case. You can play in it, then fold up your scene for quick storage. My son said there was enough sand in the kit, but he wishes that the Brown & Teal colored sands were also scented! My family and I sampled a 2 L carton of a2 Milk 2% Partly Skimmed Milk instead of our regular 2% cow's milk. We drank it by the glass, used it in our bowls of cereal, and I also enjoyed making my healthy green smoothies with it. My husband and I noticed a slight change in the milk's taste. To us a2 Milk tastes a bit smoother and cleaner than regular cow's milk. It tasted fresh. It felt less heavy. Our 8 year old described the taste as being "lighter". What's different with a2 Milk? What makes it unique? Some people experience digestive issues (aka "tummy troubles") when they consume cow's milk. Science says this may be caused by the "A1 protein" found in regular cow's milk. This a2 Milk claims to mostly be missing the A1 proteins, and is made mostly of the A2 proteins. This means that using a2 Milk should not cause the same digestive symptoms associated with consuming regular cow's milk. My family and I did not experience any digestive issues while using this carton of a2 Milk. So, I could say it was easy on my digestion. Nutritionally, a2 Milk is similar to regular cow's milk, but it is more expensive to purchase. I would likely buy more @a2MilkCanada products in the future, especially if I found a2 Milk on sale, or had coupons for a2 Milk products. Yes, I would definitely recommend a2 Milk products to people who enjoy the taste of regular cow's milk, but do not want to suffer the digestive troubles that sometimes come with consuming it. This affordable Degree antiperspirant did what it claimed to do. It did not leave any white marks on my black/dark clothes! I don't wear white dresses or blouses, so I can't vouch for the no yellow stains claim. It is not something I've had an issue with. It sprayed on cool, if not a bit cold, but I found that refreshing. It did stay dry! On the downside, an aerosol spray is not the best choice for the environment. Don't inhale. For me this spray went on quickly and got the job done. I liked the scent, but is a little strong, and I would not recommend this for those with sensitivities. If you wear a lot of black or dark colored clothing, and dislike those embarrassing white marks, consider trying this product.
