I originally mentioned this movie in chickchat back in late June, but I'll add commentary here, too! I originally wanted to see this movie b/c the premise of being trapped in a horrible relationship was (and still is) gripping a dear friend. There really aren't any mainstream actors/actresses in it (Andy Griffith and Keri Russel). Keri Russel is the main character. It was a great story ... empowering. The story line is nothing new and perhaps a bit cliche. But the writers make up for it by weaving in some unique aspects (mmm, the pies). I recommend the movie as a fun chick flick. -

I'm not one for fashion at all, so I thought I'd be able to identify w/ the main character. Her plight was quickly and well developed. However, there were easily 100 unnecessary pages which simply added nothing to what was already established. Finally, in the final 50 pages, the book drew me in and the end was fairly satisfying.
I thought, since the book didn't do a whole lot for me, maybe the movie would be enough of a deviation from the original that I'd like it. I was mistaken ... mostly. There was plenty of deviation. I like how the main character was developed to be more confident and competent than the book portrays. As a result, she seems much more liked by her boss than in the book. However, the movie fails to thoroughly develop the main character's relationships outside of work/fashion. I never felt like I got to know her boyfriend or best friend. In the book, its those 2 friends that finally help her to realize what she must do.
Needless to say, I'm in no hurry to read this author again ... unless someone can tell me that her other book is more satisfying earlier on.

I LOVE this movie! I put this under the tree of nearly every friend and family member this past Christmas. The story and animation are done so well that you may even forget that you're watching a cartoon. Remy is done well and Linguine is spot on in capturing a socially awkward young man lacking confidence trying to make his way in the world. What I liked best about this movie, though, is that, as far as I know, this is the first Disney/Pixar film where humans have such anchoring roles. Listing off all the films I can think of, its always something imaginary, an animal/bug, or an inanimate object (that is animated, har) that takes the main role: A Bug's Life, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc., Cars, Toy Story, etc ... DEFINITELY rent or buy this movie if you haven't already seen it! -

I like this facial moisturizer a lot. Because my skin breaks out often and I prefer a lotion w/ alpha hydroxy acid, this product will likely function as a good alternative to my tried and true. This product's scent is wonderful. It goes on smooth and absorbs quickly. However, I felt like the consistency is a bit thin/watery.
Add some SPF and alpha hydroxy acid and I'd be a true convert!

I like this facial cleanser. My skin is very particular and tends to jive best w/ Neutrogena products. But so far, no complaints w/ this product. The scent is very nice; subtle, not overpowering. Like others, I don't know if this cleanser will replace my tried and true, but its a nice alternative. My preferred cleanser is currently running low, so this product is extending the life of my Neutrogena by alternating every other cleanser each time I was my face. -

Scoma's is the premiere local's hot spot for seafood in San Francisco! If you're in town and don't want to hang where the tourists do, this is THE place. Its located a touch off the beaten path tucked in on Pier 47 (just a few piers down from the main tourist piers). Their seafood is fresh caught daily and delivered direct to their pier right off the boat! F-R-E-S-H! Their food is delectable. When I went I had sand dabs, fiance` had swordfish, and his mom had the restaurant's signature dish. We all had a taste of her's and there is no question why its the most ordered menu item! This is a MUST for your next trip to SF! -

Oh, the things we will go through for beauty!!
I decided to wait to write this review until just after I used the product, so that all my thoughts would be fresh! I hate shaving my legs. The pain of epilating is worth it, and as others have said, you "get used to it." Don't get me wrong, it never really feels "good," but it does become tolerable. The key is to slowly, and I mean slowly, move the epilator from ankle to knee (or beyond) so that the little tweezer machine may grab every last hair (even the fine ones) in one single pass. The tweezer monster is very thorough and only on occasion do I have to go over an area twice.
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you may notice red dots all over your leg (i.e. each follicle that has been tortured). These clear up w/n 12-24 hours. So unlike misschickie's review, I'd avoid using the epilator just a few hours before a hot date or even an impromptu trip to the pool. No cause for alarm, though. Just sooth your mangled legs w/ some cooling lotion.
Another problem I come across w/ 1 or 2 follicles after each use of the epilator is ingrown hairs. They generally aren't too bothersome, but be sure to exfoliate a lot!
I stay smooth for about 2+ weeks. Then the little buggers begin to poke through again. Its lovely, though, to feel hair coming in that is soft and smooth, not stubbly and stiff.
Oh, and I use the epilator only on my legs and feet. I tried it near the girlie spot just once. That was a mistake. Those hairs are too coarse and hurt A LOT more. I'm way too much of a wimp to try this thing on my armpits.
But, believe it or not, I love this thing!!

I signed up for this product via the chickadvisor review club w/ my fiance in mind. He suffers from extremely severe dry skin on his knuckles, very likely a minor (undiagnosed) case of Psoriasis. Initially he thought the Lubriderm Intense Skin Repair lotion would be more effective than the Lubriderm Advanced Moisture Therapy simply from the product label. He was mistaken, though. The biggest difference he noticed is lasting effectiveness. This product keeps his trouble spots moisturized for hours on end. It does not wear off after just 2 hours, like the other product.
I also used this product. I didn't notice much of a difference in effectiveness b/t the two products. Again, this lotion is advertised as unscented, bit it has a subtle scent of amaretto. I love amaretto, so I'm pleased w/ the subtle scent. Like my fiance, if I had to choose one of these 2 products to use, I'd select this one.

I signed up for this product via the chickadvisor review club w/ my fiance in mind. He suffers from extremely severe dry skin on his knuckles, very likely a minor (undiagnosed) case of Psoriasis. He liked that the lotion absorbed very quickly, is non-greasy, and does not spread all over everything. However, the moisture that the product supplies does not last very long. Within 2 hours his dry patches needed attention again. In all fairness, though, he admits he may see better results over a longer duration of use.
I also used this product. Its quite thick and it does absorb rather quickly, especially considering its thick consistency. Even though the cream is advertised as unscented, it has a subtle scent of amaretto. I love amaretto, so I'm pleased w/ the subtle scent. As far as effectiveness, for someone w/ pretty normal skin, it was fine, but nothing extraordinary.

Woah! Honey! This stuff is soooo awesome as a beauty product! Made curious by Scents of Peace's recommendation and then samuraiya's fab review, I had to put honey to the test. I was unsure how store bought honey would do since previous suggestions indicated raw, less processed honey. But I went for it anyway. Once daily, for 2 weeks I cleaned my face w/ Trader Joe's honey (probably somewhere b/t farmer's market honey and regular grocery store honey). The results are VERY noticeable. I have oily T-zone skin that is uber prone to break outs. Honey has not prevented break outs. However, b/c it is anti-microbial, pimples clear up in record time. Also, b/c honey is a humectant, my skin is less oily. I interpret this as the honey leaves my skin moist which doesn't require my skin to produce excess oil to moisturize the skin. Go honey! -
