I’ve been eating low carb and treated myself to a small bowl of this ice cream. I even stuck to the 125ml recommended serving size! I must say it was delicious. Unfortunately I didn’t carefully read the ingredients to see that maltitol is like the third one listed - oh how I wish I’d known. I’m still recovering from one of the most dreadful episodes of stomach upset I’ve ever experienced, comparable to labour. The cramping, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and cold sweats seemed to go on endlessly. My life flashed before my eyes...I contemplated dialing 911. I wish I was exaggerating. It’s been 24 hours and I’m still afraid to eat. The intense pain has subsided to something like noisy menstrual cramps.
Only consider this risky treat if you’re not planning on going too far from the bathroom, and you’re confident in you’re ability to survive this degree of torture without suffering psychological trauma.
