I spent a few months in Winnipeg last year and fell in love with this place!! The food is exceptional, definitely not your typical Japanese restaurant, the service is very friendly and the Japanese tables upstairs are a novelty. My sister came to visit and this was the restaurant I absolutely had to have her try. The dishes aren't huge but they're great for sharing. Loved one of their fish dishes (can't remember the name unfortunately) which tastes like butter and melts in your mouth. So yummy! -

Have you tried hot pot? No silly, not that kind of hot pot. It's sorta like fondue minus the chocolate and cheese. You cook an assortment of seafood, thinly sliced meats, vegetables etc. in a yummy broth with a bunch of different sauces. My friends and I tried it last Saturday and loved it! It was fun to cook our own meal at the table and try different variations. We stumbled on a place in the northend of the city (Hwy. 7 and Leslie in the Times Square plaza) called Tak Wor. The place is certainly not glamorous but the food was very fresh and the service was excellent. The waiter knew we had no idea what we were doing and was incredibly helpful. It was also very well priced. The bill for four including tax and tip came to $90. It was a fun experience and one we'll be trying again! -
