At this time of year, most of my free time is given over to gardening, which means extra wear and tear on my hands, knees, shins, and feet. Because my skin profile is dry and a tad sensitive, I need a moisturizer that will be absorbed deeply by my skin yet will not cause irritation of any sort. So, when Butterly and Aveeno offered me the opportunity to try Aveeno’s new Calm and Restore Daily Gel Moisturizer for free in exchange for my review, I was excited to see how it stacked up against my regular moisturizer.
Aveeno Calm and Restore comes in a professionally-designed plastic pump bottle printed with all of the information you need about the product on the back. What I also like about the bottle is that it has been fashioned from 30% recycled plastic and is, itself, recyclable. I have to say, this pump top works very well…I didn’t have to fool around with it to get it started like a lot of similar pump tops and the product flows freely through it, giving me just enough each time.
I was a little skeptical when I saw the texture of the product…it is a gel rather than a lotion and it is very lightweight…to be honest, I didn’t think it was going to do much for me, but I am happy to have been proven wrong. Though the moisturizing gel is lightweight, it gives good coverage and absorbs into the skin quickly leaving no residue on top of the skin. This is important to me for two reasons: 1. The more product that absorbs, the better for my skin 2. If I am using a moisturizer out of the shower, I don’t want residue from it sitting on top of my skin because then it sticks to my clothes when I’m trying to get dressed. There were no such issues with this moisturizer, thankfully. But most importantly, Calm and Restore does work to help restore the moisture barrier in the skin using aloe and vitamin B5…it doesn’t just help temporarily, but it gives skin a soft texture and healthy glow overall. Plus, if you have dry, sensitive skin like mine that is easily irritated, the prebiotic oat concentrate works to soothe sensitive skin. I never experienced any stinging, itching or any redness while using Calm and Restore and that’s saying something as my hands often get cracked due to dryness and are easily irritated.
One other thing I appreciate about Aveeno Calm and Restore is that it contains no fragrance, parabens, or dyes, ingredients which are not only bad for your skin, they are bad for our environment. So, I can feel good about using this moisturizer, knowing I am not doing harm to myself or our earth. If you have super-dry, sensitive skin like me, I highly recommend you give Aveeno Calm and Restore a try.

For those with cystic acne like me, you know what a mess one of these particular blemishes can make of your face. When I was given the opportunity by Butterly and PanOxyl to try PanOxyl’s PM brightening patches for post acne care, I jumped at the opportunity in hopes these patches would help to fade the redness that cystic acne can leave behind.
I had a few spots I could’ve tried the patches on, but I didn’t want to use the patches on all of them in case they made matters worse. I focused on one spot left from a big pimple that had since dried up that left behind an unsightly red mark on my face. I followed the instructions, placing a patch on the spot overnight for the next 10 days to see if these patches could fade the red spot. The patches are circular and are big enough to fit over spots left by big pimples. You could probably wear them during the day without an issue because they aren’t really noticeable, but PanOxyl says to wear them overnight. They stuck on well and stayed stuck until I peeled them off in the morning. I didn’t see much of an improvement after 3 days as PanOxyl stated, but I did see a marked improvement after using the patches for 10 days. I also like that they didn’t seem to dry out my skin, but seemed to smooth it out. Another thing I like is what these patches don’t have: no fragrances, parabens, latex, or dyes. If you have sensitive skin and/or are allergic to latex, you should find that these won’t irritate your skin. I have sensitive skin, in my own right, and these patches didn’t cause me any sort of issue.
I would most definitely buy more of these as part of my post-acne care regimen and I would also recommend these patches to friends and loved ones. As those who suffer with acne can attest, bad acne and the mess it leaves behind often affects one’s self-esteem. That’s why patches like these can be so vital to those who suffer with acne, because it helps to fade the signs of breakouts, so we can hold our heads high again. If you or someone you love suffers with acne and its after effects, I highly recommend giving these PanOxyl PM brightening patches a try. I hope this review has helped you to make the purchasing decision that is right for you!
