50 shades of nope!
Nope!! I think that the only reason this book series blew up as much as it did was because there wasn't much in the genre out there at the time and E. L James had a good publicist. This book was horribly written and did not represent that "alternate lifestyle" very well. It glamorized an mentally abusive relationship and the characters were way to codependent in my opinion. There are a bunch if authors who write in the same genre (ie: Sylvia Day) that, when you read them, you won't feel like your IQ has dropped. I bought the box set thinking that these books were going to be fantastic. I wasn't impressed by the first, I hoped that the second would be better and that James would have picked up a few writing tips after the first but I was wrong. The third, I only read because I already paid for it and felt that I had too but, I barely got through it and it took me about a month to read. I normally read a novel this size in two days. I would not recommend this series and would tell you that if you liked this genre then you should read the Crossfire series instead.
I'm undecided when it comes to the 50 shades of grey series. Now the erotica never bothered me a bit and some of the storyline seemed to flow nicely together I just had a hard time getting into the series. I finished the first book and made it halfway through the second one. It's not typically the series I read so maybe it had a lot to do with it. It was an ok book overall and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of books.
Disclaimer: I have no problem with erotica, that is not the part I find disgusting.
This book is disgusting and glamorizes unhealthy, abusive relationships and gives people the wrong idea about BDSM. In BDSM trust and safety are the most important things, and the fact that when she revokes permission and asks Mr. Grey to stop, he not only continues but also threatens her, makes this extremely problematic. That is rape, and this book romanticized it and makes it seems like it is okay because he is a rich white man.
Open your eyes ladies, this book is atrocious, even more so that is started as fanfic for another problematic series (Twilight - also beyond terrible)
Not what I was expecting when I watched the movie. I have read all the books. The movie was slow, over hyped, no Mrs.Jones. I wish there were some scenes added that were in the book, but I'm glad there were some scenes that weren't added.
the book 50 shades of grey is definately way better than the movie. after seeing the movie i probably wont read the book again. they never should have made a movie.
Well I finally watched the movie on mother's day. ( don't judge ) I've read all three books. The movie is much tamer than the books. It's a combo of a bad lifetime movie and lady porn all rolled into one. I was surprised on how bad it wasn't. I will be watching the sequels.
An average movie and an alright book...I think the hype of it all was more then it should have been. I was expecting something much more from it all..but id say go see it for yourself
absolutely loved this movie, keeps you on the edge of your seat! and the ending definetly keeps you wanting more! cant wait for the next one!
