Just before Christmas I received an unwanted early Christmas present in the forum of a cold sore, YUCK! I haven’t had a cold sore in years and couldn’t believe it was happening to me at this time of year. I happened to have a coupon for $4 off of Abreva, so even though I don’t like spending this much money on something I’ve never tried before, I bought some. The tube is only 2 grams in size, but you use such a small amount that this should last you a long time even if you do get cold sores often. Abreva contains 10% docosanol that helps to protect the surrounding healthy cells from the cold sore infection. Its FDA approved to shorten the healing time and the duration of your symptoms such as tingling, pain, burning and itching. I noticed a difference in the feel of my cold sore right away. All of the awful symptoms I just mentioned seemed to stop and I felt much more comfortable. The next day I could tell just by looking at it that it was starting to heal and not get any bigger. With in a few short days it was well on its way to being gone for good! Even though Abreva does cost more then I normally like to pay for products like this, I was definitely happy that I did this time. If you get cold sores often or one just happens to surprise you one day, then I’d definitely recommend you pick up some Abreva at the first little tingle you feel. It truly did work for me and I’m sure it will help you as well.
Abreva really works and my cold sores don't get to be the mess that they used to be. At the first sign (tingle) of a cold sore, I apply the Abreva - several times a day. I keep the little tube that is very expensive in the fridge which seems to make it last longer. I have been using the same tube for two years now and have gotten through four cold sores in that time. Husband and child have also used this and have gotten good results. Sometimes that cold sore is completely gone in two days....which is tolerable.
I get cold sores once or twice a year, and Abreva has made them less noticeable and has shortened their length significantly. I like the fact that it is cream based and soaks into the cold sore and stays on for a long time. As apposed to gel base which usually comes of easily. This is a good reliable product. that you can count on.
Abreva appears to be expensive for the size of the package.
It sells for $20 and it really is a small tube... however.....
If you suffer from cold sores are I do, I am sure you will find it is worth every single cent.
I start applying as soon as I feel the tingle and it never becomes more than something that resembles a small pimple.
One tube usually gets me through two or three cold sores.
Great product!!!
Whenever I get a cold sore during the cold/flu season I get abreva. I use it at the first sign of it, which is really critical if you want to zap that baby early. It works great but is pricey. It's worth it though.
This cream may be pricey for a small tube, but it's more than worth it!
And if you're like me, when you get a cold sore you'll pay ANYTHING to get it to go away! :P
Unfortunately, I get a few cold sores a year usually around flu season.
Because of this I keep Abreeva around at all times.
That way if I wake up in the middle of the night with that devastating tingling feeling on my lips, I can run and grab my Abreeva and put it on right away!
And that's really the key with Abreeva, to get it on your cold sore ASAP!
And if you do, you might even be able to prevent the cold sore from developing!
I love this product.
I've tried pretty much every cold sore remedy out there and if you're not able to get a prescription cream, then this is the next best thing!
I am fortunate not to suffer from cold sores except on the rarest of occasions. My husband, however, gets them often when he's stressed and the weather is dry and cold.
Until recently, he jumped through the hoops of getting a prescription for Zovirax every time he had a new sore. One day he decided to try Abreva and hasn't looked back. It's not quite as effective as Zovirax but darn close. I always buy it when it goes on sale or I find a good coupon for it. I have also seen it recently on Amazon for around $11 (with free super saver shipping!), so now that winter's on the way it will be time to stock up.
