Not sure how I feel.
To be honest, I loved this brand of food for my dog. I read that it’s one of the top dry foods for dogs In Canada, and for the price I figured it should be. My dog is very picky, and I haven’t been able to get her to eat just kibble without putting some sort of wet food in it, even with this brand (no matter the flavour).
We kept buying this brand until one day I saw an article on how it had a certain chemical in it which wasn’t actually advertised or disclosed on any of the bags ingredients lists, and that completely changed my mind on this food. How can you charge so much, and claim it’s the very best food but not disclose that it has a certain chemical that isn’t actually too good for your pets. Mind you I can’t remember the the exact chemical because it was awhile ago but I believe it started with a T and was an acronym for something.
The article I read stated that it was found and they admitted it in the US, so I just assumed it was same for Canada because there was no difference in the American and canadian Acana brand.
While every other ingredient seems very good, I can’t support a brand that lies and fails to mention the use of a chemical in their products. Especially when they claim to be one of the best, and charge an arm and a leg.
Although I have heard some very great things about Acana, it did not sit well with my dog. She seems to be fine on Blue buffalo and Performance. However, when we got her Acana, even after the initial 2 week transformation to the new food, her stool was very soft resulting in accidents. I am not sure if maybe there is something that my dog was allergic to as I really wanted her to be on Acana, but it just didn't work for her.
