The price is the only thing I would recommend about an Acer.

I love love love my little Acer Aspire One Netpad!
I have a larger laptop but hardly use it! This little one is sooo handy! I was skeptical upon purchasing it. And amazed at its capability! I liked it so much I went and got one of my daughters one too! It can hold many pictures and is easy to travel/and take with you since it is so small! The keypad works great and the screen coloring is perfect! It is fabulous to use for internet searches. It is a great little machine! and pretty darn sturdy too!... mine has fallen and been dropped multiple times and still keeps on ticking! Great price too! I got this on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $199 and it's worth every penny! I am very happy with this product.
A couple things to mention.... the sound isn't the greatest and doesn't play very loud. There also is no DVD player in it - FYI

I picked up my netbook in December 2009 for $250 this was on sale though.
I love my netbook. Its light i can take it anywhere and it does not feel like im lugging something around all the time. Its very portable.
I have the shorter battery life, it runs for about 3 hours before it needs charging which i find suits me perfect.
The netbook is great and can do anything that my desktop or any laptop can do other than there is no cd/dvd drive so for those of us less techy people it is hard to put new programs on that arent just a download off line type of thing.
I found the keyboard hard to adjust to at first but now that i have the hang of it, its just like any other one i have typed on. Also i believe it comes in a couple of colours, i however only purchased a plain black one.
It would be perfect for someone that just likes to go online and surf the net or take to class for note taking. This netbook is great! I have and would recommend it to anyone!

I purchased my Netbook in July of 2009. I was surprised by how small the box was even. Other laptops that I had purchased had far too much packaging, I think. It took a little bit of time to get used to the smaller sized keyboard. It's about 95% the size of a standard keyboard. It is amazingly light and portable. I have the smaller power battery and even that lasts a number of hours. I used to dread having to lug my larger laptop to school, but this is so easy. I have not had any problems with crashing or anything. It runs on an updated Windows XP.

The only problem I've encountered with it is sometimes the built in webcam in mine gets choppy. I plan on taking it to the store to get it looked at, as it's still under warranty.

Overall, this is a great product if you're looking for portability and simplicity.

I received the ultra-light, fairly durable Acer Aspire One two weeks ago, and was surprised at the tiny box it came in. The little netbook set me back 260$USD and has so far been worth every penny. It comes in four colors and two general flavours: White, Blue, Pink, and Bronze; 8 gig SSD hard drive with Linux or 160 HDD hard drive with Windows. My version is the 8 gig, and since I use it primarily to write and be online while away from a desk, the small hard drive with minimal fan noise is perfect.

But don't let the category fool you - this little laptop can do almost anything the big boys can do. I've installed Linux versions of Photoshop, Office, and Windows Media Player on this little guy, and he handles it like a pro. I wouldn't trade my One in for anything. It's small enough that I actually DOWNgraded my bag once it took the place of my school book and notebook, so I can take him everywhere without advertising that I'm muggable.

A word on sizing concerns: The keyboard is 95% the size of a regular keyboard, a feat made possible by shrinking some of the keys that aren't used in touch typing, namely the F-keys. It's quite easy to get used to. The screen is very small, but if you consider that it's about on par with a personal DVD player, it should be easy to get used to as well. I find I prefer it, as a writer, because I find my attention drawn entirely into the thing I'm writing.

You can find the specs anywhere, but I want to stress that there is NO optical drive on this puppy. I haven't found a need for one yet. There are three USB ports, one hard drive expansion slot, and one 5 in one SD card reader. It's actually easier to transfer items via USB drive than it is to burn CDs.

I bought mine on Amazon.com, and I recommend you do as well!

I have nothing but good to say about this product. Its by far the best electronic I bought..ever! I got the seashell white one (its really pearl rather than white).

The keyboard of this model is very nicely spaced out so your fingers won't overlap and hit other keys as you might expect to when using a netpad. Think of all the functionality of your home PC, but in a unit small and light enough to put in your purse! It has amazing battery life, its a fully functional PC with wired and wireless internet capabilities, just ... SMALL !! I love it. It comes with a very nice sleeve to protect the unit from scratches so you don't have to buy that extra.

My personal computer is also a Laptop (HP) but its a regular laptop and although its one of the new "slim" kinds, imo its still too bulky to carry around. This computer is strong enough to do everything I need it to, and then some!! Not to mention I can slip this into my purse and carry this around whereever I go, browse the internet and come on chickadvisor whenever i want ;-)

Now this is a tiny pc, so yes the keyboard is smaller than what I'm used to, but its very nicely spaced out and the keys are very nicely formed, doesn't overlap at all and when I'm using it, I don't even feel that I'm not typing on my regular keyboard. The screen is also small which might discourage some, but this really is created for its portability, and I don't think its meant to be used as a regular home computer. However, it can easily be connected to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse so it can be used as a home pc if so desired.

The one thing to note however, this laptop does not have any CD ROM drive. But of course an external USB CD ROM / DVD RW whatever drive can be added quite easily, and nowadays the external units aren't very expensive either. It comes with 3 USB slots so you can add whatever USB device you want to it. Here is the list of specifications:

    Product Specifications
OS Mircosoft Windows XP Home Edition - English/French
Software Mircosoft Works 8.5 (Full Version)
Mircosoft Office Home & Student 2007 (60 days trial)
    Processor Intel Atom Procesor N270 (512KB L2 Cache, 1.60Ghz, 533Mhz FSB)
    Memory 1GB DDR2 533Mhz SDRAM
Storage 160GB Hard Drive, Multi-In-One Card Reader. SD Card Reader
TFT Display 10.1" WSVGA (1024x600), Acer CrystalBrite Technology
Graphics Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    Communications 802.11b/g Wireless LAN, Webcam
    Color Seashell White
    Battery 6 Cell

This product is still very new but gaining popularity. I think in the near future Acer will probably add bigger hard drives, as well as more RAM to this unit, and hopefully the price will go down as well. It cost me about $500 (incl tax), and my home laptop (which I got very recently as well) which I got from futureshop cost me a bit over $700, so considering this is much smaller, and not as much RAM, HDD, CPU Power, etc this is quite expensive, however I'm asure as it gains popularity the price will go down. Some might argue that it costs more to build, but as far as I'm aware the Hard drive and RAM used in this unit is the exact same ones used in regular sized laptops, so really it shouldn't cost as much as it does (this model uses a hard drive and not a SD Card which some other models used. I purposely bought this one so if I want I can upgrade the HDD and RAM myself later on).

I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a home PC and is looking for a highly portable laptop. I think this is a must have for all students.
