Collectible not functional

Packaging was appealing. My son was very excited to open it. He was familiar with Bakugan, but I was not. I did some internet research and was ready to dive in. Four really cool Bakugan are in this set, two of which are true metal. The first problem I notice is the play mat. We can’t figure out how to use it. It’s different from all the other battle arenas/mats, and we’re not sure what to do. Not a big deal. We’ll just play. Now we run into the second problem. Only one Bakugan come with the Bakucores. So, in the set only one can be played. This is definitely not a starter set. I feel maybe it’s more for collectors? I could be way off. I don’t know. Maybe with this play mat the cores aren’t necessary. No instructions are included, so you really have to know your stuff for this. My son is still playing with the Bakugan in his own way. They are cool figures. I feel the metal ones will have a longer life span. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t play properly. I feel the Bakugan without the cores are pretty useless. You’d need a vast collection to be able to match your cores to the other Bakugan to use them. Again, maybe with this battle mat the cores aren’t necessary, but I can’t figure that out. It does come with 4 character cards, plus 2 other card that have the magnets to open the Bakugan, but we don’t know what those are for either. From what I gather, this would be a set for collectors, but, sadly, we are unable to enjoy this to the full potential we expected.

My kids were not sure about this toy, did not take too long to loce it ! #got it free. Hours of fun. Highly recommend for kids older than eight years.
