Ladies, for those of you having an allergic reaction to this - or any mineral foundation and other types of these products - it's due to the synthetic ingredient bismuth oxychloride (lab created). It's used to impart that characteristic 'glow' that we all love. But there are far better ingredients which can be used for this, including but not limited to - mica, boron nitride, etc. The Bare Escentuals line has A LOT of bismuth oxychloride in their entire line, including the eye shadows. It's a very common allergen which makes many women break out in hives, irritated bumps, skin rash, eczema, acne, weepy pussy patches, itchy and watery - swollen - eyes, etc. Lots of sexy reactions to it :-) There's nothing wrong with you. The problem is the sub standard, toxic product. Some other lines which has this harmful chemical in them are Skinn and MAC's mineral foundation. Lots of it. And yes, I've tested them both. Many other lines use it as well. Always check all of your makeup for this ingredient! An allergy to it isn't rare. It's extremely common.
This brand may be popular and well known, but it's some of the worst out there. For better quality, cheaper products, try Silk Naturals Minerals. They're at http://www.silknaturals.com OR Adorned With Grace Minerals at http://www.adornedwithgrace.com I've tested both of these brands as well, along with many others, and can vouch for the fact that they are not irritating. My skin is fairly sensitive to bad products.
The quality of the aforementioned products is far higher, their prices are relatively inexpensive with great coverage (Silk Naturals has 3 types of coverage with silk powder in them - Original, Medium and Heavy), AWG has 2 types of coverage, they are made in small batches by hand.........and your skin will thank you for it. :-) Some of the BEST mineral foundation out there, especially in the low price range. Low price yes. Low quality, no. A higher ticket price doesn't ever guarantee quality.
Another offender, believe it or not, is retinyl palmitate. Commonly irritates skin. Yes, I know it's vitamin A. But vitamin A can be brutal on skin. Be careful, ladies :-) READ YOUR LABELS! :-)
Tried this a few years ago when I saw an infomercial touting it's effective coverage and natural mineral base. I bought the introductory package which included 3 different shades of foundation, the "warmth" blush, a pinker blush and a couple of small eyeshadows.
All in all, I was very pleased with how the product worked with my skin. The coverage was on par with any liquid foundation and didn't have that matted on, caked look. Unfortunately, I found the whole process of applying the mineral makeup time consuming and extremely messy. Almost as much powder ended up on the counter in my bathroom as on me, and considering it's rather pricey cost, I hated any to go to waste. The foundations and the blush and warmth product were my favorites. The eyeshadows I thought were a bit lackluster and tended to crease up pretty fast. Also, while the product claims to have built in sunscreen, I was leery of depending upon it for my facial SPF needs and wore additional sunscreen facial lotion before it.
After I had used my introductory products, I moved on to other foundations simply because the cost and mess of it outweighed it's advantages. If you feel you can deal with those two things, then they are great products.
I never bothered using foundation because I always assumed that foundation feels heavy on your face and clogs the pores. Plus, I tend to have dry cheeks, so whenever I did use any sort of foundation (I opted for powder because I felt that it feels lighter), the powder would crack into my skin and highlight the dry-ness.
After learning about mineral foundation, I did some research online and read a lot of reviews saying that mineral foundation gives good coverage while hydrating your skin, while keeping it look and feel very natural and light. At first I opted for the cheaper mineral option of Pur Minerals, however, the color selection was very limited, and it was difficult to find a color that matches my skin tone. Also, the powder had a terrible, acid, odor to it that I did not appreciate.
I visited Sephora and found the Bare Minerals line, and decided to do some research at home. After watching the videos on their website, I was amazed at how one foundation can give full coverage and conceal, as well as soft, light coverage as well (depending on the density of the brush).
I fell in love with it after trying it for the first time at Sephora. It stayed on all day, and made my skin look even, vibrant, and natural. However, the most popular tone purchased it Medium Beige, which happens to be mine as well, and it would always be out of stock, so if you are Medium Beige as well, just purchase online.
One con I found was that the shimmer in the powder tends to fall into the creases and sometimes make it seem more obvious. It might just be because my skin is dry, but other that that, it's an amazing product!
I have very bad acne, so trying to find a good makeup to cover up blemishes is difficult. I have tried so many foundations but they all made my skin oily and smell weird. After about 5 years, I decided to purchase the Bare Minerals Foundation. It's a bit pricey but very worth it for four containers of foundation, veil, and brushes. I watched the dvd that came with it to learn how to apply it and when it tried it, it was amazing. It goes on so smooth and even though it looks like powder, it becomes creamy on your face but so light that you can't feel it. I also like that you can sleep in it and it won't hurt your face. I have a one year old daughter, so remembering to wash my face at night can be difficult.
I reccomend this for any woman or girl having acne problems or oily skin. It helps a lot!
I started using the BareMinerals foundation about two months ago. I have used other mineral foundations (both powder and liquid) in the past, but this foundation stands above the rest. As many of the other reviews state, the coverage is excellent. The product goes on light and you don't need too much to get great coverage. I purchased the starter kit online from the Bare Escentuals website (as the local Sephora here in Vancouver was completely sold out). I particularly like the mineral veil - as it gives a nice sheen to my skin - just a soft glow. For those of you with more oily skin, I'd recommend trying the matte version of the foundation. I've fallen so much in love with BareMinerals, that I recently purchased several of their lip and eye products, as well. I will leave reviews on those soon, as well!
I was so excited to buy the Bare Minerals starter kit. After using it for about a week I started to get red, itchy circles underneath my eyes. I generally use makeup from Shopper's Drugmart - nothing special, and have never had a reaction before. My redness lasted for two weeks. I felt embarrassed to go out into public!
Luckly, I bought the starter kit at Sephora and they returned all of my money. I would stay far far away from this product in the future!
I have extremely sensitive pale/fair skin. Basically I break out from every makeup imaginable except organic/natural/chemical free makeup. I am amazed by this makeup because it actually lives up to all the hype. I have been using it for a month now & haven't broken out at all. It provides a totally natural look with no clumping or fake cakey-ness. It blends in perfectly with my skin tone. Definitely gives flawless coverage(if you need picture proof view my current profile picture). It also remains on my skin even through sweating. I walk alot & have the makeup on my skin when I do & sweating after a one hour walk I still have the coverage! I highly recommend using the brushes they sell, however since I cannot afford it, I just purchased a cheaper kabuki brush. I "had" wanted to buy the more affordable kit but it doesn't come in my complexion which is "FAIR" (porcelain skin). Just note that it might be a teensy bit messy when putting the powder onto the brush. Honestly, this is the BEST foundation I have EVER used!
i used this for the first time about five years ago and i havent used anything since......it has GREAT coverage...light on your skin and your hands dont get messy putting on a cream...it blends itself and never settles into pores or creases in your skin.....my only problem with it was that the foundation used to have something reflective in it that i thought accentuated flaws ....but last year they came out with a matte version of their foundation so im perfectly satisfied with bare minerals now!
its a little expensive but worth it!
I absolutely adore this product!! I've been using it for about 3 years, and wouldn't use anything else! I love the way it goes on smoothly, and looks completely natural! I also love using two slightly different shades of the foundation, (as suggested) for the most natural look possible!
While on holiday a while back, I was in need of new foundation ( gotta love when you arrive somewhere but your luggage doesn't), but I went the "cheaper" route and bought another type of powder. This turned out to be a horrible decision for me, and I ended up getting the Bare Minerals Foundation after all. Trial and error has me completely convinced that this product is the one for me!
