    Definitely not butter

The first thing I noticed is that this product actually looks like butter. I even tasted it, not bad, not butter but better tasting than most margarine. I put this product to the ultimate test, pie crust. Well it failed, miserably. So much so that the dough was so unworkable it never made it to the oven. While working with the 'brick' i noticed that it quickly began to soften as soon as i removed it from the fridge. Once I began working with it trying to cut it into the flour it only melted more. So back in to the fridge went everything This was repeated 3 more times. Beck in the fridge to rest for 30 minutes. As soon as i tried to tool the dough out it became unmanageable. The dough was soft and quickly became sticky and just bad!
After I cleaned up that mess I tried cookies. This came out much better. A happy medium between all butter cookies and using margarine. I will probably not purchase unless I am cooking for someone who is vegan.

Merci.

    Becel

I baked with it it’s definitely easier when baking a ton at a time but to make one thing it’s expensive if you already have butter at home you could use

    Stick it to me

I will be the first to admit that I prefer (unsalted) butter for most applications that require solid fats. However, I occasionally use margarine for applications like cookie doughs, which I usually bake on a whim (eg to have more "justification" to have the oven on). The sticks are definitely convenient (easily measured, easily blended into ingredients).

The one thing that makes me NOT want to buy this product is the palm/palm kernel oil. While I understand this is a fat of choice for manufactures, and that it is a fat that solidifies at room temperature (lessening the need for hydrolization - which makes oils into trans-fats), I still try very hard to avoid products containing it for various reasons.

As I was getting this for free, I didn't pay close attention to the price, but know that it was somewhat high compared to other similar products, including butter.
