Thanks to Chick Advisor for letting me try this!
I liked this flavour, but there were some areas that could use some tweaking to make it even better. Firstly, the cheesecake part had a nice flavour, but it was too subtle to stand up to the deep chocolate flavours. There could be more cheese cake, little pieces would make it extra good. The ice cream itself is quite nice and has a very creamy texture without being too heavy or too sweet.
All in all it was good ice cream, but not exactly worth the $6.99. I would recommend it, but try getting it on sale.
I get this HUGE package in the mail, I almost didn't want to open it because I didn't order anything lately. So when I open it, out comes this neat package from Breyer's....
It was so cute I HAD to take pictures, and I was dying to see what was inside this box. At first I was like "this can't be the ice cream in here, they must be crazy"....turns out that they gave me three bowls and spoons so I can share with friends and family...what a wicked idea
When it comes to the chocolate cheesecake flavour, it did taste like chocolate cheesecake, but I wish they put some cheesecake-like chunks in it so it would taste more realistic. It was definitely good though....that tub finished in about 2 days thanks to my brother. His review for this flavour was pretty obvious lol
First of all, I was very impressed with the package that arrived from Breyers. It was a really lovely gesture for them to send 3 little ice cream bowls and spoons.
Since I'm lacking in freezer space I decided to throw an ice cream party so my friends could help me test out the 3 ice cream flavours.
This flavour was greatly anticipated by my ice cream party guests but there was some disappointment in the taste since it didn't quite deliver on the cheesecake front. My friends felt that it paled in comparison to the chocolate velvet ice cream that we also sampled. We were also surprised that there were no cheesecake bits in the ice cream to give it texture and add to the cheesecake flavour. Having said that, I did enjoy this ice cream and would be happy to have it again!
We all felt that $8 was a bit much for the tub of ice cream, and more than once people remarked "what's with the double churn thing?" It seemed to raise people's expectations for the quality of ice cream, and while it was quite creamy, it didn't seem all that different from other ice cream we've eaten.
This was the last flavour I tried, as I thought it would be my favourite.
It was good, but I was a bit disappointed by the fact it didn't really taste like cheesecake. That said, I did like the taste of the ice cream and enjoyed it. I'm just not sure I would have named it cheesecake and I think those who are expecting the ice cream to have a strong cheesecake taste you won't find it to be obviously cheesecake flavoured. That said, I still liked it and the blend of what they put together. Like the other flavours it was smooth, creamy and rich which is exactly what is missing from most ice creams.
Much like the other flavours, this melted quickly so finish eat up otherwise you'll have a pool of ice cream in your dish!
I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the flavours in this line of Breyer's products, they did a great job!
I tested this through the review club along with the two others Dark Chocolate Velvet and Banana Cream Pie.
This ice cream was okay. I'm not a huge fan of cheesecake of any kind, but I was willing to give it a shot. It's quite sweet and thick, but I found the sweetness over-powered the chocolate taste. My Mother who loves most cheesecake was disappointed because she said it lacked in the actual taste of cheesecake.
What I liked: I can handle the sweetness if I only have a little bit at a time. Small servings keep this ice cream enjoyable.
What I didn't like: Like I said, the sweetness was a bit much. And once again, this ice cream melted really fast.
All in all, this ice cream is alright, but I think there are a lot of better buys out there.
I'm pretty picky when it comes to ice cream and stick to vanilla & chocolate so I wasn't thrilled about chocolate cheesecake. To me, it's either one or the other lol and when I do have cheesecake, I only like strawberry...needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it...although it was smooth and creamy.
This was the only flavour of the three that I tested that I didnt like (I also tried Dark Chocolate Velvet and Banana Cream Pie). The texture, as with all of those that I tried, was incredible- smooth and thick enough that it melted in your mouth. However, I was not thrilled about the flavour of the ice cream. While the chocolate was okay, there was a distinct lack of true Cheesecake flavour. Due to the fact that I also had the Dark Chocolate Velvet in my freezer, this ice cream satisfied neither the craving for chocolate or cheesecake. It is possible that my expectations were too high from the others I tried before it, but I definitely wouldnt recommend this product.
I didn't love this flavour - of the 3 that I tried (the cheesecake, along with the Banana Cream Pie and the Chocolate Velvet), this was my least favourite. I think I was expecting something more 'cheese-cakey'... that 'salty sweet'/richness of true cheesecake was definitely missing. The chocolate flavour is OK if you're just looking for chocolate, but I actually found the various flavours in this ice cream to kind of compete with one another - if you're looking for chocolate, go with the chocolate velvet one! If you're looking for cheesecake, I think you'll be happier with the real thing.
This ice cream was just okay - in comparison to the other Double Churn ice creams. The cheesecake thing didn't really taste like cheesecake, but it didn't really taste like ice cream either - hard to describe. If I'm having a craving for actual chocolate cheesecake, I want something really decadent, and this just wasn't it.
I received three flavours of Breyers Double Churn ice cream to review: Banana Cream Pie, Chocolate Cheesecake and Dark Chocolate velvet. All of them tasted wonderfully decadent, smooth, rich, creamy, but not too dense or sweet and the ice cream was light and fluffy in texture. All three tasted true to their names.
The chocolate cheesecake flavour was good, but I don't think the flavour was as well developed as the other flavours I tested (banana cream pie and dark chocolate velvet). However, I enjoyed this ice cream as I didn't find the cheesecake flavour to be overwhelming - it is muted however (which I prefer).
If you're expecting a very strong cheesecake flavour out of this ice cream, you will probably be disappointed. I liked it because I found the mild cheesecake flavour to compliment well with the chocolate. The flavour didn't feel strong, heavy, rich or overpowering but the cheesecake flavour is quite suttle. If you enjoy a cheesecake with a suttle cream cheese flavour then you will probably enjoy this ice cream. However, if you prefer a very pronounced cream cheese flavour in your cheesecakes, you might be disappointed as you may not be able to detect the cheesecake flavour.
These are probably the best ice creams I have tasted in a long time. I also loved the packaging of the gift box that came with three cute round bowls and sundae spoons (plus ice cream vouchers that I redeemed at the store)! I had my girlfriends over who also LOVED the ice cream and we sat around raving about how great all the ice creams were while watching a movie!
We would rate them all a 8.5/9 out of 10!
