91% OF CHICKS DIG IT
I just recently received my produc coupon (a few days ago) and scoop - that was a nice surprise - for this Breyer's ice cream, so I've only had the opportunity to actually eat it once before reviewing it.
Firstly, I must say that I NEVER buy low fat products. The flavor is always lacking, anything with dairy in it tastes watery and these products are just, overall, yucky! I'm also a very strict believer that our bodies need fat to live. You'd die without it, quite literally.
When I realized that this was low fat ice cream, I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to sit down to a bowl of it. I really had to push myself. In addition, my local store (Walmart) had very few flavors. I believe they carried chocolate and vanilla. Which was disappointing. So I dutifully picked out my carton of chocolate and trudged home with it and stuck it in the freezer. REALLY was NOT looking forward to having to eat this!
As far as packaging goes, it's a good thing that '1/2 the fat' isn't prominently displayed. For me, anyways. If I wasn't picking this up for a product review, there's no way I would buy one that screams 'I'm low fat'. Ever. The colors of the packaging are really nice, and the graphics are pleasant. Sitting amongst all the ice cream choices in the supermarket freezer, it looks pretty good. The price? A tad steep, a couple of dollars more expensive than other brands (at least), I have to say. I mean, it IS ice cream. Not a staple in anybody's diet, really. The carton itself opened very easily and the lid popped back on securely with no problems. I also liked that the tub wasn't plastic, but made out of paper products. In addition, because of the shape of the tub, it easily fit into my freezer, which is one of those lower drawer freezers in a new stainless steel fridge. I was worried about having to squish it in to my already overcrowded bin. It ended up not being a problem because of the shape, thankfully.
Surprisingly, when I actually talked myself into scarfing some of it back, I found this ice cream to be very smooth and not a typically low fat tasting product. It actually IS creamy. And it actually DOES taste like it's got some fat in it. The chocolate flavor is also very pronounced and tastes like true chocolate. Which was another surprise.
The product scooped very easily and the carton was FULL to the top, but I noticed right away that it began to melt on contact with the bowl. Like immediately. That I didn't like. I prefer a harder ice cream. but with a smooth, creamy taste. And I like eating it, as opposed to drinking it. With the first mouthful, it seemed quite a bit too sweet for me. Maybe that's the company's way of making up for the low fat flavor? I don't know. Nonetheless, too sweet. I wasn't able to finish my 2 scoops. I do make my own ice cream at home, and prefer the way I make it, with far less sugar. It also seemed to have the tiniest bit of a sandy or gritty texture. It's just barely there, but it's there. Anybody else notice this?
Would I but this again? I don't think so. Between the price and the fact that it's extremely sweet, I can't say I'd find eating this product very enjoyable. Other brands are far cheaper and my home made just tastes better. But, again, for a low fat ice cream, it's pretty impressive. Especially since the list of ingredients doesn't seem to include any extra chemicals to make it taste good.
I forgot to say, I was sent a coupon for a Breyer's product, but NOT this one. Regardless, I chose the one I was supposed to review and hoped the cashier wouldn't notice that the coupon and the product I chose didn't match. She didn't, as she was too busy marveling at HOW I got a coupon for entire FREE tub of Breyer's LOL
I chose the Strawberries and Cream flavor. It is a huge tub of ice cream, so you get a lot of it! I really loved that this was low-fat especially when it tasted delicious! I don't usually like the taste of low-fat ice creams. I've tried a few of them in the past and I don't don't tend to like the taste, but this one was so delicious! It tasted like real, authentic strawberries. I loved that it had that taste of real fruit. I definitely recommend this!
Thank you for the sample! The taste of the ice cream is absolutely fantastic, however I found the price a little higher than regular ice cream, however the great part is that I am eating 1/2 the amount of fat! You really could not tell the difference between a full fat ice cream versus the low fat ice cream. I would totally recommend this to family and friends.
I also received this product from the Product Review Club - I tried the Mocha Fudge Brownie. I absolutely loved it - the price was a littler higher than I would regularly like to spend on Ice Cream but I was sold on the fact that it was low fat :). For that fact that it was low fat ice cream I would not have been able to tell the difference. It was absolutely delicious and I am most certainly sold on this new type of Breyers Ice Cream. Thank you again for the sample!
My family is fanatic about ice cream which makes them very picky when it comes to price/taste. We never buy fat free ice cream as my mom says "if you are going to enjoy an ice cream, you might as well have the 'full' indulgence." It was our first time actually trying a Breyer's ice cream (Vanilla Bean), so we can't compare to their 'regular' ones. But they actually didn't realize that it was fat free! The texture is good and it wasn't too sweet, but there is slight foamy texture to the creaminess which I am not sure how I feel about. It is still one of the better 'less fat' ice cream I have tasted so far. It was on sale for 5.99 but regular price was marked as $8.49 which I find to be on the expensive side.
I tried Breyers Smooth & Dreamy in Vanilla Bean with my Mom and we both loved it. It was a little difficult to find and we had to go to 4 different grocery stores in the area to finally find one that carried it, despite living in a big city. It tasted great and the texture was pretty similar to regular fat ice cream. It was tasty on it's own and was great to blend into milkshakes. I would buy this ice cream again and can't wait to try the other Smooth & Dreamy flavours.
My family all loved the new Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Ice Cream! We tried the natural vanilla bean, mostly because I thought it would be the most revealing of the true level of richness and natural flavour. Well, Breyers pulled it off
Even without added chocolate, sweet treats or fruit to bolster the flavours, Breyers Smooth and Dreamy natural vanilla bean is a flavorful, rich, smooth and creamy dessert with only 120 calories per half cup!! It is extremely satisfying and delicious. I am delighted to recommend this treat. (Even for us Chicks that are watching our food choices and moving in a healthier direction!!) Thank you Breyers!
As part of the Chick Advisor Product Review Club I decided to try the Dulce de Leche Breyer's Smooth & Dreamy ice cream. I just love caramel swirls in my ice cream so this flavour was definately a great choice for me. As far as ice cream comparisons goes - this one was pretty delicious. The texture was very smooth and very creamy and guess what ladies (and men) - HALF THE FAT!!. Although HALF THE FAT, it didn't really taste "light" and it's pretty comparable to the Full Fat Breyer's ice creams. I've tasted several "light" ice creams in the past with a lot of disappointment as they always taste a little funny, watered down, which wasn't the case with Breyer's Smooth & Dreamy. I wouldn't even know that the ice cream was half the fat unless I read it on the packaging or someone told me. Perhaps it's the breakthrough new Cream Press System that is used to make this product which breaks apart the cream into tiny droplets and spreads them out throughout the ice cream??? Ah the Breyer's Smooth & Dreamy mystery!!!!
I would definatley recommend this ice cream as an ice cream, not necessarily as a "Half the Fat" alternative. My girlfriends' are going to love me for letting them try this product - I'm throwing a girl's night out on Friday and we'll eat lots of this product, that is if I actually have some left by this weekend.
Thank you Product Review Club!!!
I was very excited to have the opportunity to review the Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Dulce de Leche Ice Cream, as I eat their ice cream products on a regular basis.
The quality - like all Breyers products - was high end, very rich, creamy and decadent. The best part though, was knowing that with half the fat of their regular ice cream products, it only makes this a relatively guilt free treat.
The price is a bit high ( and I hope to see it on sale soon), but overall I would definitely recommend it for sure!
As part of the product review club I got to try Breyer's Smooth and Dreamy 1/2 fat ice cream (and it was on sale for 5$). Despite living in a big city I needed to go to 3 grocery stores to find it and when I did all they had was vanilla which I wouldn't have been my first choice if all the flavours were there. That being said both me and my toddler liked it. It's got a nice creamy texture and it's very sweet. It's great to have a 1/2 fat ice cream for both myself and the kids especially with summer season and more ice cream eating. I will buy some of the other flavours if I can find them in my local stores. I think this is a nice ice cream and people should try it.
