Like others, I was very excited when I saw the Bumpits infomercial! When I saw them hit the WM shelf, I picked them up right away! My hair is pretty thin (recently had a baby), and I was really excited to get the bump back in my hair! ;) They were a little disappointing for me. Because my hair is thin, I needed to use really big sections of hair to get the bumpit to stay in place and to hide the bumpit so you couldn't see it. By using such big sections of hair I lost the desired effect... Instead of having the nice little 'Fergie' Bump for my bangs, think Little House on the prairie with a big out of date bump! I did finally manage to get them to work well, but not using just the Bumpit alone - using lots of hairspray and bobby pins.
So, I think they are worth a try, and depending on your hair type you might get better results than I did!
Bumpits are a really great hair accesory than I use all the time. They add great volume, and are extremely versatile. You can wear it casually, classy, sassy, you name it. For such a great product, the fact that you pay not even $10 is ridiculous. I would expect to pay more. The only down-side is getting used to the product when you first get it, but once you get the hang of it they are great and extremely useful. I recommend them highly!
When I first heard about Bumpits I was really excited, because I cant seem to get my hair to bump on my own. So when I got them on sale I was stoked! I brought them home and took out the package and put one in right away. At first I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how exactly to get it to stay put, my hair becomes really fine when I straighten it, and I couldn't seem to get the bumpit in the right place. After about 20 minutes, I finally had teased my hair enough to get it to stay in. It looked really good, but I found that the "spikes" that are on it to keep it in your hair kind of hurt my head. I didn't enjoy taking it out either, it was tangled in my hair, and I had a bit of trouble getting it out without ripping my hair. I haven't used them since.
It's nice that there are a variety of colors, so that you can "color match" with your hair color. It comes with a large bumpit, a medium bumpit and a small bumpit. From my personal experience, I wouldn't recommend this product, I found it more trouble than anything.
I bought the "Bump It" thinking it would help me acheive big hair...it did not. I found it very hard to keep the 'Bump It" in and tight. It does not give your hair the back combed effect whatsoever. I would much rather back comb my hair into a rats nest and spray it with tons of Hairspray, than use this. I would never recommend this product to anyone. Luckily it was only $10.00!
I saw all the infomercials for this product and if you want to see them, all you have to do is go to this link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBDFBogYigw
In a nutshell, these claw like inserts are left in your hair to create volume. The package reads, "From flat to Fabulous in Seconds" well... not so much. I love volume in hair, I like big hair, but I wasn't a great teaser in the beginning. It took a really great friend to spend a half an hour with me to teach me how to do it effectively. After I'd mastered the art of teasing, I wanted to try bumpits in my hair to create even more volume. First you tease, then you put in the insert and put the hair over the bumpit to create holding volume. Oh and be sure to use hairspray!
It's important to note that they can be bought in 3 colors, blonde, brown and black (sorry red heads). Even though they match your hair color, there is still lots of fretting about whether or not the insert will show or not. The first time I tried it, I was really paranoid it was showing, according to my coworkers, it wasn't! The paranoia about it showing, caused me to pull it out after about 2 hours. I also wanted to note that it made my hair look a little pagent-y. It just wasn't for me.
