Overpriced and Ineffective
I was given the BURT'S BEES GOODNESS GLOWS LIQUID MAKEUP to review for free in exchange for my honest opinion and I was not impressed by it. I love the Burt's Bees brand and am a huge fan of their lip care lines. I couldn't wait to try their brand new makeup line but unfortunately the foundation fell short.
First, the smell was overpowering and disgusting. I am not joking when I say it smells like dog poop. That is all I could smell and think about. It spreads very easily on the skin as it is pretty thin and two coats will give you a nice medium coverage. The product is really hard to blend (I used a beauty blender) and found that it always looked streaky. I had a primer underneath but my primer looks amazing with every single other foundation I have ever tried. I set the product with the Burt's Bees mattifying powder and found myself still looking 'wet' and greasy. The foundation is a dewy finish but it does not look natural or normal. The foundation separated terribly throughout the day, settled into my fine lines and my oils seeped through. No amount of re-blending or powder could cover it up. I had a function after wearing the foundation all day and I actually went home and took it off and went to the function bare faced as I felt more comfortable.
The foundation is super lightweight and you truly cannot feel it on your skin which is awesome. It is 98.9% natural and free from parabans, phthalates, talc and many other terrible things found in most beauty products. It comes in 12 shades which is a great start for a new foundation line. Overall I would not purchase this again nor would I recommend it to any of my family and friends. For $20 a bottle I cannot see any reason that this would be worth it over other foundations. I love what they are doing with the natural beauty and natural products, but their recipe needs some editing. I also think they should create a primer in their makeup line as well to go with the foundation!
Better than I expected!!
I've been looking for an affordable non matte foundation for the summer as I tend to have to go quite a bit darker and as it's only for a couple of months I'd rather not pay high end prices. I picked up shade 1040 Honey and typically when I purchase drugstore foundation I'm usually stuck buying a few and having to reblend to match my skin tone. I'm happy to say this colour is pretty dead on and I think will even work if I get a tad darker. The formula is nice....initially it seems a little streaky but it definitely evens out as you blend. I tried with a damp beauty blender as well as with a foundation brush and found the beauty blender the way to go. I love that it definitely has a fuller coverage and is very buildable without any of that cakeyness. My biggest complaint is that the second you pressure this foundation basically melts. Not suitable for any sweaty activities!! All in all I will probably keep it as a backup but probably it will not make it into my day to day rotation!
