Would not work in my dishwasher

I bought this on the recommendation of a friend, followed the instructions on the package but the tab did not dissolve so I put it in the dishwasher and ran it again, it did not take off all the food and left a residue on the plates. Maybe my dishwasher is just to old for this product.
