Perfect for Shrek Cosplay
I saw this product on sale for something silly like $5 and since I was already on the look out for a green concealer I figured a base would be even better. At such a low price it seemed perfect. Plot twist: it was not.
Catrice describes this product of theirs as a "smooth green base" that "gives a longlasting even skin tone". What they fail to mention is that though the skin tone will be even, it will green.
This base comes with no instructions but I've used primers countless times before so I figured it's a no brainer. I put a little bit of the product on the back of my hand and immediately felt something is off. The product was quite liquid, which seemed normal, but it was VERY heavily pigmented and quite dark. Despite my initial concern, I went ahead and started applying it to my face. When I was done I'm pretty sure I felt exactly what Princess Fiona from Shrek felt the first time she experienced her curse - I was looking at myself in the mirror but saw a green ogre staring back at me. Despite using less than a pea sized amount for my whole face and blending it out, I was very clearly, very green. I looked as if I had stained my face with cheap body paint and couldn't wash off the residue, not at all like how you look with a green primer on or when you cover spots with the more opaque concealers. In sunlight, I was a vibrant sea green.
Despite my woman's intuition screaming "abort mission!" I went ahead and continued with my makeup. Two layers of medium coverage foundation later and I was still green. After the third layer, I was grey. I put down my makeup brush and stared at my own reflection contemplating what I've just done. I laughed hysterically for about 1.5 seconds and then went to wash it all off before I could start crying over wasted foundation.
Initially, I thought I did something wrong but after a minute of Googling I found others have the same result - despite using small amounts and blending it out, it's so pigmented with this deep green, it shines right through foundation and we look like Shrek's relatives. This base overall mainly just provides a vibrant green colour, so when you're putting on your foundation it's like putting it on top of something bright green rather than something that's neutralizing another colour that would shine through your foundation. I found a tutorial that makes the product usable but it requires layers of foundation, powder foundation, and then covering the green base with concealer, so you might as well go straight for the concealer. There were a few people who seemed happy with the product as they suffered from severe redness caused by rosacea and found it does tone it out, but often leaves their foundation looking grey. It looks like those with severe redness might find some use for it as one of their makeup layers, but there are better products out there and this is certainly not meant for any milder redness either. I tried mixing it with my concealer to create a green concealer but found the base doesn't cooperate well and still looked too green. I tried using tiny amounts only on problem areas, but again, found it left me looking like I have very mild green bruising.

NOTE: Catrice also has a "prime and fine anti-red base" without the "correct my red" on the packaging. From reviews I read, it's a different product - some people complained of it being a touch shimmery and this one certainly isn't. One reviewer posted a photo of their face with the base on and they were a chalky white green, almost as if they were covered in blended out green concealer which looked like it would work with a foundation - and it did.
Catrice has another anti-red base in very similar packaging called "no more red". I'm not sure if it's the same product but re-branded, but having watched a review on Youtube they look a bit different.
Though the other two look like they deliver what's promised, this product, the "correct my red" version is a semi translucent but vibrant sea green that is too dark and does not cooperate with most foundations.
Worst of all, the packaging for all three of these products, all marked as the "prime and fine anti-red base", is almost completely identical. Maybe they were "upgrades" of the same product, but if they are all sold at the same time, this makes it very easy to buy the wrong one.
