I absolutely adore this straightener. I got this straightener a long time ago...I would say about 5 years ago and I am sad to say that it stopped working last year. I thought it straightened my hair very well and the straightener lasted an awful long time. I have heard some bad reviews recently saying that the quality is not as good anymore so the straightener will break in about a year to two years. I hope that's not true because I plan to buy another one soon.

I had my CHI straightener for about a year and I really loved the way it worked. However, not too long after I got it I started having issues with the on/off switch until finally it stopped turning on at all.

When I went back into the store they told me that other people had this same problem, so I chose a different brand to buy next. But I actually just went into a Beauty Supply Outlet yesterday and they told me that during the time I purchased mine (I think it was about 4 years ago now), CHI straighening irons were being manufactured in China and so the quality went down the tubes. Apparently they are now being made in the USA again and so the quality of the new ones is improved.

Another problem with the CHI straighteners is that they are coated with ceramic, so underneath is metal. This is really damaging to your hair, but it heats up really fast and that it can straighten your hair so fast.

As much as I wanted to love the Chi 1" Ceramic Flat Iron, I just couldn't bring myself to write a positive review for it. My hair is naturally straight, however, it does get frizzy and the flat iron is my best friend whenever I style my hair. I also wanted to try curling my hair with this flat iron since the edges are rounded, therefore, I figured it could serve the dual purpose. Here is why I can't bring myself to using this flat iron:
First of all, there is no dial or knob to adjust the temperature of the iron. Instead, there is only an on/off switch, making it very easy for it to burn your hair to a crisp. In fact, this is exactly what it did to my hair. Regardless of having used a heat protectant prior to straightening my hair, and making sure not to spend to much time on one particular strand of hair, my tresses felt like straw after just one use. In terms of straightening, it was effective in giving me the straightest hair ever, but the end result of dry, crispy hair was not worth it. I wouldn't want to know what my hair would look like if I had continued to use it time and time again.

In terms of curling my hair with this iron, I did find that it produced an excellent curl, but at the expense of my poor fingers. The barrel becomes so hot it is almost unbearable to touch, let alone hold the iron properly so that you can actually curl your hair. I had to stop after I had completed only half my hair.

I know many people have hyped this flat iron to the max, but it's just not for me. If they would have put a temperature dial and a protective barrier at the tip in order to hold it safely, then this would have been an excellent hair tool.

My hair is what I like to call "confused." There are parts that think they are wavy, some want to be curly, and the rest is straight. One thing that all my hairs agree on is to be frizzy. The CHI can turn my ball of frizz into silky, straight, shiny hair in less than 10 minutes. And, I don't have to go over each section 5 times to achieve the desired results. The CHI is also light. It heats up very quickly. The price is high, but it is worth it. My husband stepped on my CHI and broke it (I shouldn't of have had it on the floor, I know) so after 8 years of use, I had to buy a new iron. I went with a different brand and I am sorry that I did.

As a girl with very unruly hair, the Chi Straightener is my saving grace (I just bought my second one). I bought a special edition one that came with a heat-proof travel bag, which is amazing, I can unplug and go without worrying about how hot it is.
The straightener quickly works out all my waves and curls with only one or two swipes and makes my hair super shiny.
Only two cons when compared to other straighteners is that it does not have a heat setting and it does not have an automatic shut off in case you leave it on.

Even though the price is, well, pricey, it is very much worth it. You might be thinking "Well i can get one with just as good quality at walmart, but for only 40$" well that is not true. Chi is one of the only places i would trust for hair straightners. also you dont have to pay for shipping if you live in Canada or America, but any where else it is considered international shipping-sorry. You can get them in multiple colors (as you can see in the pictures) Just google Chi Hair Straightner and there will be more informastion on it and there will be sites where you can buy it. I dont think it is the best idea to buy it off ebay or amazon or one of those sites just because they cant guarentee good quality and there is a reason they are selling it and the reason might just be that it doesnt work. I really reccomend you gurlies going to buy one!

I own a Chi and have for over four years now. I have to say that I find it to be a disappointing product. One might ask why I still have/use it if I find it to be less than satisfactory... I have very fine straight hair to begin with so it works relatively well for everyday use. However I feel that CHI's are very hit and miss. I have many friends who have ended up with lemons. I feel that I have a lemon myself. Some of them simply do not straighten hair to the same quality that other CHI straighteners do.

I have the CHI ultra in red that I bought from my salon. I think that when you stray away from the original black CHI the quality seems to go down for some strange reason. Does anyone else seem to have this problem?

However the original 1" CHI (my girlfriend had to go through 2 CHI's before she found this one that works well) does straighten hair incredibly. When I use her CHI my hair becomes soft like feathers and perfectly smooth. Baby hairs do not get caught between the ceramic plates and the plastic encasement like they do with the CHI ultra. If I were to buy another hair straightener I would go with the original 1" CHI or try a Paul Brown flat iron... many of my friends have those and are very happy with the results it produces.

I love, love, love my new Chi flat iron. I have super thick, curly, frizz-prone hair and the chi works wonders on it! I have always been too cheap to buy one, as I rarely straighten my hair. It just takes so much time. I got it as a gift recently, as my family was tired of hearing me complain about my crazy hair!

It works wonderfully and does not appear to damage my hair at all. I can straighten my hair, which is a shoulder length-ish and very thick, in about 10 minutes. It used to take me about 40 minutes with a cheapie flat iron. My hair now stays straight and shiny for a couple of days, with minimal touch-ups and hardly any product. I only use it once or twice a week, but it is entirely worth every penny (of which I obviously spent none, as it was a gift - but I would buy one now knowing what I know!)

    Highly, highly recommend.

I have extremely thick, long, frizzy, curly hair. I have tried every flat iron from the cheap to the expensive. I have found that the Chi works the best. I have owned mine for over 3 years now and it has not failed me yet. There is only one heat setting (HOT) which is fine for me. It heats up in seconds and is very easy to slide through my thick hair. I only wear my hair straight and this iron has gotten m through the worst weather. I highly recommend it and if and when my Chi iron goes I will replace it with another Chi.

I live in central Florida and with the humidity I need a flat-iron that can provide me with sleek an shiny hair. My hair is really curly, frizzy and coarse, Usually it takes me 1 1/2 to straighten my hair but with my Chi it only takes thirty minutes to do it. It's fast and very efficent and last until I was my hair out!
