The box packaging was quite standard. It came with 4 main items, each numbered in the sequence in which it was to be used:
1. Smoothing Pre Treatment;
2a. Color Treatment;
2b. Activating Creme;
3. Pro-V Colorsilk Conditioning Therapy.
In addition, the packaging came with 2 large plastic gloves and instructions which clearly laid out each step of the coloring process - including a standard warning sign about potential skin allergies. In going through the coloring steps, I realized that the first step was new to me: applying the smoothing pre-treatment at the end ends of my hair. I had never seen this step with other home colouring boxes. But I proceeded with this first step with ease. All in all, the coloring process was quite easy. The smell was not bad and the creme applied easily. For my long hair (past shoulders), it took a good 15 minutes to apply and one box was sufficient as I concentrated most of the color creme in the top half and only applied the lefts overs to my ends. Because of my naturally dark roots and stubborn grays, I kept the creme in for a full 45 minutes. Rinsing the color out of my hair was easy. I waited for the water to become clear of color before shampooing. Then I proceeded to apply the Pro-V Colorsilk conditioner. It was a very good conditioner. But due to my long hair, I used up over half the tube. It detangled my hair immediately, gave it a very smooth texture and smelled nice. After drying my hair, I could see my salt and pepper was 99% gone. Unfortunately I was still able to find a couple of strands of gray/white hair that didn't color. Overall the color was very similar to my original hair color before coloring but provided a fresher look with no roots and the salt and pepper look gone ... My hair was also slightly less brassy which is what I was trying to achieve. My hair was also very soft and very healthy looking. However after my next shampoo 2 days later, I noticed the brassiness came back! I was deeply disappointed. And another couple of weeks later, I found many more strands of gray and white hair with no color. It seems that the color didn't last very long and washed out easily despite the fact that I didn't change my shampoo/conditioning routine. Overall the coloring experience with Clairol Age Defy was similar to other in home coloring boxes. The color was very nice and left my hair soft and healthy looking. The results were immediate in that it made my roots disappeared, it covered "most" of my grays/whites, it left my hair looking smooth, soft, and healthy looking. But because the color didn't last as long as I hoped, I may not purchase this in the future. I also noticed several months later that my hair was breaking a lot more... not sure if that has anything to do with this product since it wouldn't normally break as much with other colour box products from the drug store.

I started to go grey in my teens so I have to color my hair every three weeks in order to maintain my roots and getting it done professionally is not realistic for me cost or time-wise so I have to use boxed hair color.

Using boxed hair color over the years has been trial and error but up to now this is my favorite. With as high a ratio of grey as I have, I require a product that will cover it up and not further dry out my already dry hair and this is the best hair color I have used. It is moisturizing, shine enhancing and does not damage my hair. It is an excellent product (I use the lightest blonde).

I think Clariol age defy is a very good product, I used the #4 dark brown which was a very drastic change for me as I was previously blonde. I really like the color and what it did for my hair. My hair is definitely much healthier and it covered all the gray. I don't seem to have as many split ends or frizz, and my hair is softer and more manageable. I would use this product again because it makes my hair much healthier than other brands.

Loved the product! It covered my greys great and my hair is soft for a change! I only recently applied it so I looking forward to seeing how long the shine, smoothness and great colour lasts. Mind you I have never been disappointed in a Clairol product, ever!

I tried the medium golden brown. Colour is darker than I'd have liked, but not bad.. Application was simple & product didn't drip everywhere, But I found the fumes from it were very strong.. made my eyes burn & my asthma act up :(
Colour looks quite natural & my hair is soft.. but I noticed it dried out my ends too.
Depending on how long the colour lasts, I'd probably buy it again if I can find a slightly lighter colour.

This Clairol Age Defy Expert really covered my grays and left my hair soft.I have such dry hair I was scared this would damage it even more but it made it even feel healthier.Love the color selection lots to choice from.Great product

I Have stubborn gray at my temples, at the front part behind the bangs and over my ears. None of the other brands I tried lasted more than three weeks before I'd nearly be all gray in those areas again. Usually I will go to a salon to have it dyed as over the counter hair colour seemed to be weaker and do damage like dry out my hair. I first started using Pantene Expert Age Defy shampoo and colour and now use it all the time so I wanted to try Clairol Expert Age Defy Hair Colouring and I am glad I did.
This product is very easy to use and only took 1 hour from prep and clean up. My hair felt soft and smooth afterwards. Next time I will go with a lighter shade though as the light brown is too dark for me. I recommend this product to anyone that colours their hair and has grey to cover without damage

I just tried this product and it amazing, I love the treatment you leave on so the gray hairs color better. It leaves you hair shinny and smooth and very soft... Only 30 min and your done... Will definitely be buying this product again....Try it and see how shinny your hair will be....

Merveilleux ,! Mes cheveux sont doux et soyeux comme si ils avaient eu une cure de rajeunissement . Couvre bien les cheveux gris , facile à appliquer , couleur parfaite ,donne de bons résultats. Je recommande cette teinture c'est certain !

I strayed from my usual brand of hair color when I saw this on sale at Shoppers. I was shocked when I opened the box to read the instructions and saw that this color has to sit for 35 minutes, as compared to 10 minutes with my regular brand. But, I have to say, I liked this brand better than my old one! I found the scent was far, far less chemically it actually had a somewhat pleasant smell. It felt like it was gentler on my scalp than other brands. It was a thicker formula that was easier to work through hair and stayed piled on top of my head while I waited the 35 minutes for it to process. It rinsed out much easier as well. Also came with a 'pre treatment ' it smelled really good. Definitely covered my greys better. Left my hair smoother and shinier. Color turned out beautiful, no red tone to it or brassiness, just a nice rich, dark brown. A bit darker than the box, but I'm okay with that. I will absolutely buy it again!
