LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT.
Coastal Scents is amazing. I love their make up especially their eyeshadow. Like what's not to love? You can get a 88 matte palette for $24.95. HOW CHEAP IS THAT? In addition, it works so well. Definitely a product I would recommend to others!
I purchased this palette after seeing a number of youtube reviews on it from users such as "makeupbytiffanyd" and "allthatglitters21". The price point was great and shipping costs were reasonable, even to Canada. I received my order in just over a week. I haven't played with the palette a lot yet, but I have tried several eyeshadows and I'm very impressed by both the pigmentation and quality of the shadows. Each shadow is about the size of a dime. This palette would be great for someone who doesn't have a lot of shadows or wants to expand their collection without paying the high costs of some brands like MAC. I highly recommend ordering from coastal scents!
I love this pallete. It allows people to try out colours they would NEVER have bought, but since it is in the pallette looking so pretty it encourages experimentation!. The staying power is a little lacking, but you cannot beat the price.
I LOVE colors! And I love eyeshadow! So when I found this I was completely ecstatic!
For the cheap cheap price of approximately $31CAN (that's shipping included I believe), you'll never have to purchase another palette again for a while!
However, every good has a bad:
1. The palette was smaller than I thought, therefore each color was about the size of a nickle, so if there are colors you use more often, it might run out faster.
2. I bought the shimmer palette (what girl wouldn't!?), but after multiple uses, I realized how flaky and pigmented the colors are. After application, the flecks tend to fall into my eyes, so for sensitive eyes, you may want to be careful. Although a great way around this is either blending the color into your hand first to remove most of the flakes, or to moisten your brush so the shadow sticks on better.
Overall, I love this product for creating any sort of look. However, I recommend you start with the regular palette first (because I assume it would be less flaky), and then move into the shimmer.
I bought both of these palettes, the Coastal Scents Warm Palette and the Coastal Scents Shimmer Palette.
Firstly, I'll say that they are packaged very well. The cases are not flimsy pieces of junk. They've also got a mirror in the lid, as well as 2 sponge applicators in each - which are useless, BTW.
As to the quality of the products, forget it. They are loaded with talc. Which means the color payoff is not that great. If you don't use a primer, they quickly come off. When you blend them, they also get very muddy. Some are so loaded with talc that they disintegrate when you touch them with your brush. Being as small as they are, that means they will quickly be gone just from blowing away in the wind :-)
As for the colors, there are far too many that are almost exactly the same. I'm sitting here looking at mine now and have counted 21 that could be used as highlighters. This is just in the Warm Palette. Ridiculous. Out of the 88 in the Warm Palette, there are 4 shades of green. 4! One light minty green, one a dark green/black, one kahki green with hardly any color to it at all and the other a powdery sage green. Again, ridiculous. 4 out of 88? And crappy colors at that.
There are also far too many brown shades in this box. I wind up using some of the matt ones as brow fillers more than anything else. I haven't even touched 48 of the other colors.
Are there some decent colors in here? Some, but I would rate them as less than average in color, payoff and quality. I mean, come on....talc? A well known filler known to make it cheaper for a company to manufacture their cosmetics. It also causes reactions in a lot o people and clogs pores.
As for the Shimmer Palette, dear mother of god.....what can I say? I've never seen so many hooker blues in my life, especially not in one place. There are also far too many red toned shadows. Red? That just draws attention to dark circles and imperfections all over your face. Exactly what we're all always trying to avoid and fix. The brown shimmers are nice, but in this palette, there aren't enough. As for the greens, again, they are of circus type quality. If I want to look all cracked out and strung out, I could accomplish it just by not washing my face and letting my mascara smear all under my eyes. Free of charge.
There are some nice highlight colors in here, and not too many of them in this case. But I can count 3 shades of green that are pretty much identical, along with 9 pinks shadows that are also nearly the same. I mean, almost dead on. What a waste.
Out of this palette, I can honestly say I've used a total of 6 of the 88. So that is now a grand total of 176 eye shadows that I wouldn't even use HALF of. Hold crap, Batman.....in my books, that's junk. no matter how cheap the junk is. The color payoff of the Shimmer Palette is much better, but that ain't saying much as it has never been my goal to have bright RED or ORANGE eye shadow screaming across the distances at people. Oh, did I mention that the Shimmer Palette STAINS your eye lids? LOL For days! Again, if that's the look you're going for, go nuts. Buy every palette they have!
All in all, I can't say I'd buy either one of these palettes again, even for this price. If I could use at least half of the colors, I wouldn't say that. But with this substandard quality, the talc in their formulas, the over abundance of one type of color in each palette, definitely not. I also wouldn't give this as a gift as it would come off as a very cheap, dollar store type gift that didn't require a lot of thought. Not the impression I'd like to create when I'm giving somebody a present. And for the love of god, DO NOT buy their lip glosses!! Worst stuff I've ever tried in my life. They went straight in the garbage. Their brushes however, especially the badger type, absolutely rock and are dirt dirt cheap.
Don't bother wasting your money on these palettes. You'd be better off trying some of their loose shadows (which also have talc, incidentally) and pigments and mixing some of your own using the raw ingredients they have on their website. Which I've done and have come up with far superior products and exactly the colors I want. And it costs next to nothing. The loose shadows and pigments are also available in sample sizes, which prevents wasting money if you find out a product is crap. Pigment sample sizes are enough to last a very long time and allow you to also create your own custom shadows with the other bulk ingredients they sell (serecite, etc).
Their customer service is great, shipping is fast, shipping charges are cheap, and products damaged in transit are quickly replaced with few questions asked. But these palettes are a definite miss in my books. Unfortunately, I read all the rave reviews on their site before buying them and believed them. Makes me wonder what quality of makeup women out there are using that they think this stuff is so great LOL Ground dirt?? Never again hahaha
I came across this palette at a wedding show a few months ago. I was amazed at the colour selection and the vibrancy of the colours.
I like to keep my eye make-up really subtle during the day, and this palette has a wide variety of neutral tones for me.
At night time, I love to play up my eyes and get really experimental. This palette has enough colours to satisfy my creative side, and although all colours aren't great for my skin tones, I find that when I'm applying eye shadow on my friends of different skin tones, there is a good selection for them as well.
I've been looking for a great eyeshadow palette that's affordable but yet good quality. If you go to the stores and look at the cheap eyeshadows each one is about 5 dollars and only offer one color or two. Coastal Scents makeup palette offers 88 eyeshadows!! You don't have to use very much as the eyeshadows are VERY VERY pigmented it's amazing quality better than I expected it to be. Don't think twice about getting this palette- the price, the quality, and the packeging is very good quality. I love it! I'm very happy with this product.
Highly pigmented shades, all shadows can also be applied wet for a deeper longer lasting effect. The compact case makes it easy for storing and traveling.
The case has a matte surface and measures 9" x 6.5" (23 cm x 16.5 cm) closed, The pots are Dime Size around and contain plenty of powder for many excessive uses.
The colors do not have a ton of shimmer in them if this is what you are looking for, you can always dust shimmer over top. It is nearly a 50 50 mix of matte and satin with slight shimmer.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG O. MY.GOD! I LOVE MY 88 MATTE PALETTE! Yes, it may not have ever color in the book and sometimes I wish I could have more of a shimmer to certain colors but this palette is honestly worth it! The shipping was awesome too, fully protected with loads of bubble wrap kept my product safe!! Im still buying more eyeshadows from MAC and what not but this is honestly a good product to fall back on, as long as you apply a primer before using the eyeshadows and apply it carefully (to steer away from fall out) your good!!!!!
I purchased my Coastal Scents eyeshadow palettes off of the company's website. (I am not affiliated with the company- I just really love these products!) I ordered the 88 warm, 88 ultra shimmer, and 88 matte palettes. When I saw the eyeshadows on the website, I was impressed with how many colors were offered in just one palette. The price is approximately $20 for each ( shipping and handling), but it is totally worth the investment. The palettes themselves are very sturdy and come in a sleek black case with labels on each one so you can tell them apart. They were also very easy to open. I expected them to be a little bigger after seeing them on the website, but now that I have them tucked away neatly in my drawer, I appreciate its size. The size of the eyeshadows themselves are about the size of a dime. These will last you a VERY long time because the formula is super pigmented and the color choice is absolutely amazing! You have every color in the rainbow!! The warm palette is excellent too for those who shy away from bold colors and want to keep their looks neutral. This palette comes with both shimmery and satin/matte shades and there are many shades that are great for highlighting the browbone and defining the crease. There really isn't much difference bewteen the ultra shimmer and the regular 88 matte palette, other than the fact that one has a shimmery, pearlized finish and the other doesn't. The quality in all three palettes remains the same. They are long lasting on the lid and I have not had any problems with creasing (with or without a primer on the lid). The palettes do come with a mirror and two sponge tip applicators in each. I prefer to use my own makeup brushes, but it is a good idea if you are travelling. I am thrilled to own these palettes! They are my most favorite out of all the eyeshadows I own.
