Taking Sleepovers to the Next Level
The Go Glam U-nique nail salon arrived the night before my daughter's sleepover with her best friend. A sleepover that was postponed since March of 2020. Perfect timing! She quickly added "manicures" to their checklist of sleepover activities. Both 8 year old girls were present during the unboxing the following evening. We were all impressed by the spinning wheel on the front of the box with stamp design options.
After batteries and a screwdriver were fetched and installed, the nail salon was declared open. The girls expressed disappointment in the colour slection and the size of the nail polish bottles, but happily painted each other's fingernails and selected their starting stamps. After leaving their nails to dry for 5 minutes in the machine's dryer, their nails were too dry for the stamps to adhere properly. So in future, we ignored the instructions and let the following hands dry for 3 minutes, leaving the polish tackier. The girls had some difficulty stamping their nails without my assistance. The tape frequently stuck to their nail and had to be rewound. Often the stamps didn't come off the tape completely, leaving half of an image on their nails. They more or less got the hang of it though and they had a blast. They were very pleased with their nails and the designs, especially the shiny ones. My 5 year old son also wanted in on the fun, so I painted and stamped his toenails. We tried using the portable stamper for his feet. It was a challenge to fit his tiny toes into the stamper, but he was quite delighted with the results. I very very impressed with how the nailpolish and tool fit perfectly into the unit for storage. Overall, it was a fun toy that provided a unique home nail salon experience. My children enjoyed it and will definately play with it again. It did cause some frustration and required adult support to use, but would make a great gift for preteen girls. I would recommend including one darker, less girly nail polish colour.
Fun little spa day with the kids
My daughter and son both enjoyed getting cute little designs on their nails.. the instructions are super easy for an adult but could be hard for kids to figure it out without help.
TESTED BY THE WHOLE FAMILY
We were so excited to be selected to test this product out but it ended up in a huge disappointment. Right from the start, the packaging attracted us. The pink colour of the box and all things sparkly were on the cover along with a large circular dial that displays all the different stamp designs. The box pretty much told us its a full salon on the go and you would not need to purchase anything extra except for the batteries. It comes with the polish/top coat, the dryer, the stamps and even the toe separater. The instructions included pictures and were easy to follow. However, when we started, it was disappointment after disappointment. First, there's only 2 colours (pink and purple) and a top coat- ideally at least 4 colours would be great. After putting on our polish, we tried using the dryer. The fan from the dryer was so weak that I think blowing it dry by flapping my hands would have been a lot faster. Kids don't have much patience. You are supposed to be able to look through a lens that allows you to select the design that you want before applying. The lens was all scratched up and made the design look blurry. The biggest problem was the stamp. You're supposed to be able to insert your finger and just press down quickly and voila, you should have a pretty design on your nail (it's pretty much a sticker). I'm not sure if the tape that we had was old or it was dried out but no matter how many times we tried to apply the stamp, nothing would stick to our nails. We tried with a dried nail, semi-dried nail, fingers and toes and nothing worked. The best I could do was use my own nail polish and I managed to get a partial print. The finished product looked cheap and crappy. After numerous attempts, we just gave up. The product has so much potential and if some of the problems can be fixed, I would definitely purchase it if it ends up on the market. The instructions manual also shows that you can purchase a refill pack for additional colours and designs.
