I really wasted my money on this one! I was really excited to try it out when I first heard about it but when I purchased and used it, it was horrible! color comes on uneven and hard to control and made my lips feel dry. I tired it again since I don't like wasting products and this time rubbed most of it off, it looked OK and much more wearable but really at the end of the day..I WASTED PRODUCT! just so i could get some usability out of it. If your looking for a stain I would recommend buy a lipstick and blotting away some of it or if you really really want a stain then opt for Body Shop's I haven't used it before but I've heard good things about it.
I bought this because I was intrigued. I had never seen such a thing before. It looks like any felt tip marker, which was entertaining. I find that it tickles putting it on, but not too badly. The colour was really bright. I chose a plum/red colour. It does wear off quickly sometimes. I suggest wearing a lipstick of a similar colour over top of it. That way, as the lip stick wears, the stain makes it less noticeable. I believe that this is the intention of the product. However, I do believe that you're better off with a long wear lip stick.
I had originally bought this product (can't remember which colour now) about a year ago, and was disappointed in it. The stain didn't stay, and invariably came off whenever I'd apply a clear lip gloss over top. A month or so ago, a friend was using one and said she loved it - it stayed on her lips practically all day, and she had no problems with applying lip gloss over it - the colour stayed put. So... I decided to give the product another try, and purchased it in #405 Berry Smooch from Shoppers Drug Mart for $9.
I've had varying degrees of success with this product. While it seems to stay put a bit longer than before - maybe because I'm showing more patience in allowing it to fully dry before licking my lips or applying gloss/balm - I still find it's not really delivering on my expectations. I also have the same experience as one of the other reviewers - it seems to wear off in the middle of my lips first, which then makes it look that I went especially crazy with a lip liner.
The pros: I love the colour, the ease of application, and the smell is okay (although I prefer fragrance-free - why spend money on nice perfume when all you can smell is your lip colour??).
The cons: Doesn't deliver on my expectations; doesn't last more than 3 hours; more expensive than it really deserves to be.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but I would inform the person I was recommending it to that they may need to adjust their expectations. 'Lasting all day' clearly means different things to different people.
I may have gotten a dud, but the one that I bought was very dry... like a magic marker that had been left out with the top off... I got about 3 uses out of it ......... the last being barely visible.... the 1st two were only somewhat visible.
I love the idea of this product and the fact that Pat McGrath had the idea. The colours are beautiful and the application is easy.
My only problem is that it wares off in the middle (on me) and stays around the edges. I've noticed that on girls with fuller lips it stays true for hours because their lips don't touch each other as much.
Sometimes I mix a few of the colours right when I apply them by blending them out before they dry, and it has a nice dewy effect. I love that it has vitamin E in it unlike most lip stains that are alcohol base so this moiturizes your lips all day.
I really wish that they had a colour that was actually a peachy coral instead of koi coral which is like a hot pink.
The price is a little steep since it's so small but it's a great product.
I also love that you can layer it under lipstick or balm to change the look.
I purchased this in 415 about a month ago. I'm not a big lipstick fan and find most lipglosses too sticky, so I generally prefer lip stains. I was absolutely in love with Revlon's "Just Bitten" lip stain in Cherry Tart, but unfortunately that must have been a limited edition product because I can't find it anywhere. That said.. I tried a couple other lipstains that were not the color I was looking for, and then I came across this one.
Pros: It's really easy to apply, the color is beautiful and exactly the shade I was looking for, it smells good, and is easy to carry around with you for touchups, and the price is great
Cons: It makes my lips look dry unless I apply a gloss over top and it does not last as long as other stains I have tried
Overall, if your looking for a lip stain this is the best I have come across so far for the price!
I got color number 415, Teasing Blush, to try out. This product from CoverGirl has a marker or pen applicator for your lips unlike regular tube lipsticks. It is water based so it shouldn't dry out your lips and doesn't feel heavy or look thick. It is supposed to last far longer than regular lipstick and isn't supposed to kiss or rub off onto anything. No leaving color on your teeth or cup.
Well, I was told that exfoliating your lips before using this product works better so you have more of an even application. It says to apply it to clean, dry lips. There are several methods I know to exfoliate lips. You could: use petroleum jelly and a wet washcloth, softly rub with a sugar scrub, manually exfoliate with a very soft toothbrush, or use a micro-exfoliating scrub made especially for the lips. When exfoliating lips it is best to start slow, rub gently, and then moisturize.
It was pretty simple to apply it correctly so it goes on smoothly. When using the Outlast Lipstain I found that putting a gloss over it made it shimmer instead of look flat. After drying fully (this does take some time and patience) it does seem to stay put. Although I had a bit of trouble with it if I licked my lips. If you lick your lips they have a raspberry-vanilla scent and flavor so they don't taste horrible. I have heard the applicator dries out easily and quickly, but if you store it like a pen or marker should be stored, tip down, then that problem should be solved.
All in all I liked the product and after thoroughly drying it stayed on for roughly 4 hours. I personally like to put a gloss or lip balm over it because it wasn't as moisturizing as I would have liked. It's suggested retail is $7.29 for one lipstain and they come in other colors that will compliment your skin tone.
The price is high, but this is one of the best products I've ever tried. The color lasted for 6 hours!
I'm a bit ambivalent about this product.... The colours are really pretty (love the Mauve) and sheer, it tastes good, it defines my lips nicely. I'm not a lipstick fan, but still like rosy lips, so this is nice under a lip balm because the colour sticks around for a while, and isn't too arduous to re-apply it a couple times a day.
However, the colour doesn't come out of the pen very easily, and as mentioned by other reviewers, it doesn't last THAT long. I'd give it a couple of hours, maximum. And you absolutely need to wear a balm or a gloss over it, because it's inky rather than creamy. Worn alone, it'll dry your lips out. That said, I'd still choose it over lipstick, and it's cheaper than some of the other lipstains on the market, so I'm pretty happy with it for now.
I tried this with high hopes. I thought that since it says it stays all day that I had a good chance of having it last. Well, it didn't. Apparently I'm one of those few on whom this product doesn't soak in or something. It wore off within 2 hours. There was nothing left. It transferred onto a tissue when I'd had it on for over an hour. I realise I may be in the minority, but for those who have issues with long-lasting products, be aware that this one may not be any better. I'm rather upset because I was really hoping it would work. Just once, I'd like one to work.
