I tried the ShadowBlast in the Silver Sky shade and I have loved it! It's really easy to create a dramatic smokey eye and the multiple shade pairings are fantastic! I also like how its 2 shades in one stick, making it great for traveling. The coverage is long lasting and the pigment is rich.
I also had higher expectations for this product.
Firstly, the colors come off much more brightly in the package. Once on the skin, though.....they are kinda disappointing. Might be good for an extremely understated eye look, maybe for the day. It's just far too sheer.
Secondly, I bought one in every color. After the first use, the pink end of one snapped off at the base. Ditto for the green one. They both got taken back. This happened before I even twisted them up at all.
Thirdly, the colors were also what I would consider to be crappy. The one that looks bronze shows on the skin as very orange, as well. Hate that.
In addition, there is also very little control over them. For example, try laying down a line on your top lid as a liner, or god forbid, under your lower lash line. Good luck to ya, girl! Always comes off like you were drunkenly applying it. NOT a good look. Unless that was the look you intended......the narrower side, which you should be able to use for lining your eyes is useless. Too thin, therefore it snaps off at the base as well. It also doesn't give a clean line. More mess to clean up.
The only thing I have found them good for is using them as a base for powder or mineral eye shadows. They definitely increase staying power and make your eye makeup show it's full potential. You can foil minerals over these sticks as well. Apply a good coating of your shade stick, foil with a little bit of water and your pigment over top. Works well under the eye too, in the case of the white and the beige crayon, to highlight or to lay a base to smudge some powder over. But have a q-tip handy to clean up the mess. Likewise for highlighting the brow bone, although not much of a mess to clean up there.
When I apply them, I find it works better if I use the stick first and then spread it out evenly with my finger tip. Then apply shadows over top, mineral or solid compact shadows, packing it on rather than swiping it over the lid. Once it's packed on, I blend it out to even things up. You need a good brush or two for this.
Anyways, yeah, not as spiffy as they make them out to be. Nowhere near. Thank god I got them with 2 for 1 coupons, or I really woulda been DISPLEASED (an extremely polite word for it).
If you want a good shadow stick that works well as an eye shadow and a powder eyeshadow base, buy a Rimmel Eye Twist, if they still make them. One side is a thin liner, the other a fat shadow stick. They both work phenomenally, and double as a base really well. Another good Rimmel product that walks all over this Cover Girl one is the Eyeful Eye Glistener, another fat shadow stick, but one ended in this case. It's very soft, doesn't pull at your eyes, a tad shimmery and glossy, and is an excellent base for shadows, as well as giving some nice, soft color. Far better than these ShadowBlast sticks. I'd be more likely to name them ShadowCrap, to be quite honest. Nothing worth buying.
I bought this produt to wear at a wedding and I am so glad that I did!! It looks amazing on and is super easy to use. The shadow lasted all night!!
I thought I would give this a try after hearing lots about it. I thought it was fairly easy to use but in the end the creaminess that made it easy to use made it hard to keep on. I think I will try another shade and see if it works better for me. I always seem to use the most dramatic at first and I bought this for a night out. I have the black and grey.
pros- affordable
good variety of colors
easy to use
cons- not enough pigment
a bit greasy for someone with oily skin
not long lasting
overall I was less than impressed with the shadowblast. although easy to apply, not much longer later it was sliding off my face & i had raccoon eyes. it might would work better with a good primer or perhaps on someone with non-oily skin. also you have to layer it on because it is not very pigmented despite how it looks in packaging.
I was very disappointed that this product did not work well, as Covergirl advised on the packaging and the information I received with a sample of it. I tried the Silver Sky/Onyx Smoke (black and white) combo. It is a cream eye shadow stick that is supposed to be a quick easy way to get a "professional' smoky eye look. The product wouldn't glide across my clean eye lid well, and broke off (both ends!) I had to stick it back in the tube and try again. I tried it on clean skin, then again on clean skin with a light coat of moisturizer, and a third time with a light coat of eyeshadow primer - to see if I could get it to apply evenly ---each time it would not. It looked very blotchy and uneven. I hate to say this, but it felt like halloween store makeup - looked awful and I would definitely not wear this in public. I would maybe use the Onyx (Black) as eye liner but that is about it. It was just awful. I am curious though---if brown shades would look better? Not sure though, since I tried it 3 separate times/ways and had poor results. I would not recommend this product. Sorry Covergirl - because I really like your mascara, powder eyeshadows, lip glosses, etc!
I love this eyeshadow. It is so easy to use and creates smoky eyes. I got the purple and grey and it really makes my green eyes pop.
I recently decided to try the Covergirl smokey shadowblast eyeshadow sticks in the Onyx/Smoke shade and I am in love. The shadow really went on smooth and silky, it was so easy to apply and really looked great with my blue eyes. The shadow blast really had some awesome staying power, too! I got a lot of comments, too!
I honestly had much higher expectations for this product. I actually didn't like it so much that I feel compelled to come here and warn other readers and I want to message the company.
First of all, the colours are beautiful. That, I love. However after an hour (I'm not kidding, by 9:30am my eyeshadow was toast) all of the colour had creased like crazy. I like to think that this problem could be solved with a little primer but I don't have any and can't find any anywhere!
Second, I actually had a reaction to this product! After using it for two days I noticed that my eyelids had gone puffy and red. I didn't use the shadow today in an effort to get rid of this reaction. My eyes are still puffy and they sting a little. This is the reason why I wanted to contact the company.
Honestly, I would really not recommend this product. Don't be fooled. I'd say its just as worth it to learn how to do the smokey eye with a good powder shadow. Not to mention that there are plenty of smokey shadow quads on the market that are better than this.
This product does not live up to what its supposed to do. I can do a better smokey eye with make up from the dollar store. The black barely shows up, and within and hour or so, because its cream, it cakes up in the wrinkles of your eyelids... i dont recommend this.
