Tea-toxify with Curatea
Product: Curatea (Detox) by Greeniche Natural Health
I love a good cuppa. Once upon a time, I toyed with training as a tea sommelier. Did you know there even was such a thing? I have since slid that into my 'fun things to do in retirement' file. While not formally trained, I do know a good cup of tea, and over the years we have moved into a whole world of options, particularly into blends targeted specifically to our health. I love that!
One tea I tried recently is Curatea by Greeniche. Curatea is a series of teas that are blended to support various aspects of our health. This one, Detox, was curated with detoxifying properties. It supports our body’s own ability to cleanse through our kidneys, skin and mucous membranes. It also helps ease indigestion and reduce inflammation.
The ingredients are simple, natural and promote detoxifying:
· Marshmallow plant: Soothes digestive tract, urinary and even respiratory tract. It may be a diuretic, so it helps to rid excess fluid to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder.
· Burdock Root: This is a known diuretic with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps detoxify the blood and promote circulation. Rumour has it that it may even serve as an aphrodisiac. (Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.)
· Dandelion: Dandelion is used in tea to ease digestive issues and possibly constipation. It is high in vitamin C; C supports immunity and the absorption of minerals. It also has antioxidants that stimulate bile production to help break down and process foods. There are many benefits found in dandelion – anti-inflammatory, lowers BP and cholesterol, stabilizes blood sugar and supports the liver. Frankly, it really makes me rethink how I view the ones on my lawn.
How did it rate as a cuppa?
Sniff test: The tea has a refreshing scent; it is almost savory, like herbs from the garden. (That makes sense, right?)
Making it: For starters, I think each day is a gift and should be celebrated, even in small ways. I used my good china for this. I made the tea to exact instructions – 1 bag in 150ml (2/3 cup or just over 5 oz) of boiling water. I let it sit 10 minutes. One bag really doesn’t make much at all. My small teacup held the entire amount suggested. It is recommended to consume 1-3 times per day, so I actually refilled my pot using the same tea bag and for the most part, the strength of tea remained the same.
Taste test: This is a lovely tea with a mild taste, not medicinal at all. If salad were a tea, it might taste a bit like this. My husband said it tasted like snap peas to him. I actually think this would make a very nice iced tea, too. Because I found it refreshing and invigorating, it is a good morning and afternoon cuppa. Also, you may find you sweat and urinate a bit more frequently than you normally would while consuming this; that is to be expected since it is helping the body with elimination. In light of that, I don't suggest this is consumed before bed or on a road trip!
One thing that I would like to see changed about this product is that it be organic and/or non-GMO. Part of detoxing means we are releasing our toxic chemical load and I am unclear if this product may contain any such residue without being formally certified.
Note: There are some concerns regarding this product for those with certain allergies and/or health conditions. For more information, contact the company directly before purchase as these warnings are only on the product label (small print makes it hard to read) and are not explicitly posted on the actual website. Overall, this is a lovely product. Raising a pinkie to good health!
