I have not been using these as leg warmers, but as arm warmers because they are quite stretchy (but small when not). They do keep the cold from going up my jacket sleeves and making the rest of my upper torso cold. They are washable and unshrinkable, so they require very low maintenance. Cheap, but works well for me.
