Love the coffee, love the story behind it. It's 100% single estate Arabica beans, which means the beans come from one place and are of the highest quality.
Doi Chaang coffee is fair trade, organic and is shade grown at high altitude. That means the beans are cultivated slowly and not rushed. It's like a fine wine. There are hints of pear, cherry and macadamia nut.
We now buy fair trade coffee exclusively and I highly recommend this brand.
It is available at a number of stores in Toronto including Pusateri's & Summerhill Market in addition to a number of fine retailers across the country and online.
There is a fantastic story behind this brand and I wrote an article about it on ChickAdvisor that you can see here for more information: http://www.chickadvisor.com/article/doi-chaang-coffee-the-fairest-of-them-all.html
I am a long-time shopper of fair trade coffee and have tried everything from Starbucks Fair Trade to the varieties found at Ten Thousand Villages. Before that, I was a bit of a coffee snob and always bought quality beans (never the vats of pre-ground econocoffee ). I must honestly say that I can't taste the difference between conventionally produced coffee and the fair trade variety, especially given the subtle differences you always notice depending on the roast and area of origin. In this case, why wouldn't I continue buying fair trade? Exactly.
Doi Chaang coffee is just as flavorful and rich as all the other brands. I would certainly buy it again! The only problem is the availability - I don't know where it's sold near me and the local Costco carries my usual brand. It's a pain to have to go out of your way :(
I am a tea drinker, but every few weeks I'll indulge in a cup of coffee. It's bold and flavourful, I love that it's fair trade and it makes me feel better drinking it. I don;t know where I can buy it, but it would make a great gift for a coffee fan
