This was a great book!!! So very detailed. It took me a few chapters to get into it though. I love the eary 1900's time period so this was a great change compared to all the other books I have read recently. You really get to know the characters well, and love or hate them.
I love James Dean and love his movies. So a few months ago, I decided to read this book. I was surprised that the movie is just from one little section of the book. The book goes much further back in time to set the stage of the characters and story line. It was a great, long, read!
So I decided I was going to start a book club. I asked a few of my girl friends if they were down for the idea. They were skeptical at first but I persuaded them that it would be good for us. So they agreed and since it was my idea I was to choose the first book. I researched and read good things about "East of Eden" so I went with it. The first chapter was a bit dry for my liking, but man can John Steinbeck write. He is very descriptive and has a magical way with words. And the story picks up, in ways I could never imagine. It contains morals of life and even though it is set in the start of the 1900s onwards, it is still relevant to today's culture. I haven't even finished the book, I'm 3/4 into it and I felt that I should write a review and let others know that this is a definitely worthwhile read. It has drama, love, lust, fear, and family living. It talks about broken hearts, lost love and just human beings trying to find their place in the world and to figure out what their life means in comparison to others around them. John Steinbeck is an amazing author and I would've loved to ask him where some of his words of wisdom that can be found in this book comes from. I've bought this book about a week ago and I'm already nearing the end of it, it's just that good. I'm so intrigued in discovering the hidden secrets that persist through out the book. Again, it is highly recommended as it does not just entertain but it will make you think and even teach you a thing or two about life decisions.
