I recently purchased elf Mineral Infused Face Primer - Tone Adjusting Green to counteract some redness that I have on my face due to acne and scarring. I had previously used a colour correcting green concealer to cover it but when I saw this new elf product, I was hoping to be able to replace the concealer altogether with this primer. I was also excited to try this product as I have used elf makeup in the past and really liked their products.
First off, here is a list of the things I liked about the product:
- It is mineral infused so it is good for your skin
- It would not only act as a makeup base, smooth fine lines, and all the other benefits of a primer but it also claimed to reduce and counteract the appearance of redness due to acne, rosacea, etc.
- It could potentially replace the need for a colour correcting concealer.
- The bottle is pretty, sleek and trendy.
- The price was very affordable at approx. $10 CAD.
Now, here are the things I didn't like about the product:
- It feels very oily and unpleasant on your skin.
- You can't see where you've applied it or if you've missed any areas.
- I didn't notice that my makeup benefited at all from the primer. (ie. It didn't last longer, look better, minimize lines, etc)
- I didn't notice any colour correcting benefits at all and I still had to use my green tone correcting concealer because the primer didn't do what it was supposed to.
So even though there were some positive aspects to the product like price and attractiveness, the cons definitely outweighed them. The product didn't seem to do anything it claimed to do and it felt unpleasant to wear as it felt oily and greasy on the skin. This is particularly unpleasant for people who already suffer from acne and oily skin. Personally, I won't buy this product again. However, elf does have many other types of primers available for a variety of issues (ie. Brightening, minimize pores, overall tone corrector, etc.). So I may try purchasing a different one at a later date and giving elf primers one more shot before I close the door on them for good. For now, I'm sticking with my green colour correcting concealer to do the job.
I've used many primers in the past few years and none compare to this one!
In all honesty I don't know if the green colour actually does minimize redness, but it is the only primer I've tried that isn't greasy on my skin! It doesn't do much to hide large pores, I use another primer on those spots, and then use this one everywhere else. It works to hide small pores. It's not mattifying, but it leaves my skin with a nice satin finish.
For a person that has a very uneven skin tone, and large pores, this primer is fantastic!
My face has red areas, some darker than others, and the the pores on my under-eye area as well as cheeks are rather large and noticeable. With this primer, it does quite a good job of evening out my skin tone and creating a smooth base to apply foundation. I have fairly sensitive skin and I find this primer doesn't irritate it.
The wear is long lasting, I put my make-up on at 6am and by 5pm, it's still pretty well in place, which doesn't happen without primer! The price point is fantastic as well. Very good quality in an affordable bracket - that doesn't happen often anymore!
I am very pleased, e.l.f. Cosmetics outdid themselves with this one!
I purchased this product in hopes that it would work with hyperpigmentation from hormonal acne. I never intended to use this on my entire face, as I don't have all-over redness, so I mixed it with the poreless primer.
At first, the colour of the product scared me. It comes out of the pump bottle a bright and dark-ish green. But this colour dissipates when you blend it into the skin. Also, it feels very light which is a bonus!
The product did significantly reduce the redness of the marks. All I wanted to find was a product that would allow me to use less foundation/concealer to cover my marks, and that's exactly what this product delivered at an extremely affordable price.
Additionally, I let my mum use this product. She has rosacea and this product easily neutralised the redness so much that she didn't need to use any light concealer at all. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone needing to counteract redness.
If you are looking for makeup products that are easy on the pocket book, then e.l.f. brand products are great. This primer is very inexpensive, and the entire e.l.f. line has attractive packaging. This primer is for redness correction, and comes out of the pump in a startling green color. It applies smoothly, filling in fine lines with an even, satin smooth finish. However, it didn't do much to correct redness, in my opinion. I feel like it only "blurred" the redness on my skin. It worked very well under my makeup, and I will continue using it til it's gone...then I will be on the hunt again for something that covers redness.
