This is the old ergo insert and I much prefer it to the new insert. It is easier to use and fits a wider range of babies. Yes. it is essentially a small, padded blanket but I found it was less fuss.
I am sad that I sold mine and would gladly trade for the new heart2heart one.
If your using and Ergo baby carrier with a baby under 14lbs the infant insert is a must. Depending on the type of Ergo that you have there is a newer style of insert. The insert provides head and neck stability to your little one and overall support when they are too tiny to put their legs out the sides of the carrier.
I bought the Ergo infant insert so I could use the Ergo Carrier from day one. My daughter was not a fan. Screamed every time I put her in it (and I did try to get her into it many times!). I also found that being a petite woman, the infant insert raised the baby up so high she was practically in my face and didn't seem secure. My daughter didn't like being swaddled and also rejected traditional slings, so it could be that it just didn't work for us. She likes the traditional "baby bjorn" style carrier, so I'm hopeful that once she's older she'll like the Ergo (without the infant insert).
