Our son in law bought this for our daughter for Mother's Day this year. I didn't know what they were. I saw she kept wearing a black bracelet and finally I asked what it was. She got it at Walmart and loves it. She keeps track of how many steps she takes during the day and all kinds of things I didn't think was possible. I am thinking of buying myself one now.
I have the Fitbit Flex and i have been using it since September 30th . I have to say it has worked so well for me. Firstly let me explain what it can do for regular users:
1. It is stylish pedometer , it can count steps , distance , calories(calculated based on steps)
2. It monitors your sleep activity - you will be surprised to know how many times you are in unrest condition once you wear this device and track your sleep activity
3. You can set step, distance goal challenge with your friends or the Fitbit community groups
4. Once your daily goal is set it will alert you through email or app notification to clock in more steps at milestones for eg " you are only 2500 steps from meeting your daily goal
5. You can program it to wake u up at particular time every day , you can also program it to alarm you for different things (this is one of the best feature )
6. For the conscious calorie counter - Connectivity to myfitness pal, Sparkpeople, Loseit .com thus you can track your calorie intake on those platforms and see how much you need to walk , run or burn to reach your calorie out goal in this way it gives you real time motivation to burn calories
7. Very neat graphic display on the fitbit app and extensive graph features on the website
8 Instanlty syncs to your android, iphone / ipad through bluetooth :infact you can hold your phone in one hand and walk on spot to see the step count increase- i love this seamless integration
What it will not do
1. It will not count floors climbed/how high did u walk? or Altitude, so if you intend to challenge someone on floors climbed all you will get is step count
2. It does not monitor your heart rate, in HIIT cardio and other kinds of training some people do like to know how many calories they burnt but because this device calculates calories based on steps it does not account for your heart rate, how long you were exercising at max heart rate thus you might have worked out till u drop in a 30 minute intense work out session but the device will understate the calories burnt based on steps
3. You are supposed to wear it on your non-dominant hand , thus somewhat inaccurate step calculation for left handed people
4. does not show time (like Flex/ jawbone/ Polar FT )
Battery retention is very good in the first three month , you charge it for half an hour max using usb charger and the device retains charge for 5 days , however i have noticed with time the battery retention has reduced it now requires charging every 4 days
Bought this to monitor my sleep and steps at work! I love it. It is awesome to see what type of activity I do.
I have been using this for almost a week and i am liking the motivation it provides. I like the stats at the end of the day and the reminder that i need to move a bit more during the day.
I am not sure how accurate the steps are, as one day i used the treadmill in the morning and gained over 4500 steps, and the next day it only registered 2500 steps for the exact same distance and time. Something that i am going to continue to monitor.
the battery life is good so far.
I wish the bans were more affordable to interchange them.
I wish it was available for my blackberry, but i dont mind not having the instant data. it makes me work harder throughout the day to see my results when i check in at the end of the day on my computer.
I love that it links to myfitnesspal to help track calories and additional exercise.
I bought this device as a motivation to shed some baby weight. I do love that it is water proof and physically attractive, in a sporty way. I have a hard time believing that I walked as many steps as it says I do and burn as many calories that it says I do. It does give me a good idea of how active my say was. I like that it can tell me how well I slept and for how long but it is easy to turn on and off that feature at night. It is a bit pricey for what it does but it is cool to have if you have some money to spare.
I've been using my Fitbit for just over a year. It's a great product although I have had some issues with it. First the band broke within the first six months. I contacted Fitbit and they replaced it! I was super impressed with them and their customer service. Then about three weeks ago my Fitbit wouldn't charge at all. I tried all of the online solutions Fitbit provided on their website. I ended up contacting them again and after some trouble shooting they are replacing my Fitbit at no charge.
I'm sure I just ended up with a defective one and would happily purchase another one. I'm also extremely impressed with their customer service and fast problem solving.
I have been using the Fitbit flex since May 2014 and I love it! I haven't taken it off since! I even wore it in my wedding day, with a cute band if course. It's great to track your steps and its pairs nicely with other apps to track your food and even maps my runs! I'm a very competitive person so being able to compare myself to friends or family and have competitions is lots of fun!
