Got a chance to dye my hair the other day and I must say, I am impressed with this brand. I have some gray hair and it covers it quite well. Although my hair is long, the bottle covers every strand and still have left over. Colour is true to the what it indicates to be. I do find the smell to be a little strong but it's like that for most of them out there. I would have prefer the conditioner in a tube rather than the little package it comes in which only lasts for two wash. The colour is staying true so far but mind you it's only been a few days. Overall, very happy with this brand.
I got this product as part of the product review club and am happy with the results. I went a few shades darker than my natural colour and have tons of hair. The one bottle provided full coverage for all of it. I found that while doing the dying the product wasn't as smelly as other hair colours I've used, nor did it stain my skin as much as others have in the past. I know drying out and ruining a girl's hair is often a big concern when it comes to hair dye. My hair still looks healthy and shiny! This one seems pretty gentle and I liked the hair conditioner that came with the hair colour. Its too early to say how long lasting the colour is and what condition my hair will be in after a couple washes..I'll keep you updated! So far so good.
Only drawback is the plastic gloves....but this goes for all hair colour kits I've tried in the past. I get my boyfriend to do it for me and the gloves are way too small.....he had to use rubber dish gloves!
I got this product free as part of the review club and will not be buying it in the future. It says that it will cover 70% of greys, but I don't think it colours white at all. I am blond, with red highlights so as I age my hair turns white, not grey. Conditioner is nice and makes my hair soft, but I didn't like the smell of either the dye or the conditioner. Gloves weren't fun either. Overall a disappointment although it is nice that it is ammonia free.
I had a mix up with the colour I requested when I was selected by chick advisor to try this product. I recieved a dark blonde that looked like a light brown. I contacted CA and lucked out on recieving another colour I wanted a chose #800 blonde because it looked similar to my current colour.
Smell: No ammonia but it still smells bad [when I was dying my hair the room was filled with family and they all scattered out]. The conditioner faired no better.
Product apperance and use: Looks similar to other products but the bottle cap tab was hard to twist off.. had to bite off the top. During application I found it very difficult to squeeze the bottle to get the product out and thus took me longer to apply.
Colour effectiveness: I had such high hopes for this product. My hair is a medium golden blonde shade to begin with and this product dyed my hair almost a grey colour. Everyone was shocked and horrified.
Application and use: Very sticky and difficult product to wash out [the dye] took almost 10 minutes and my hair is cut just below my ears. The conditioner as well was thick and sticky and very difficult to wash out of my hair.
Look and feel: Again the end result was the colour I wanted [thus I am looking for ways to remove out ASAP] On the plus side the goopy conditioner made my hair easier to brush. But I didn't like the way the conditioner is in a packet and not a little sealable tube. My hair feels a little "odd" not crunchy [as when I've dyed with permnante colour] but a cross between crunchy and soft-ish.
I was selected to receive this from the Product Review Club (thank you!) and am very pleased with my results. I chose medium brown (shade number 503 I believe) and am so happy with the colour and overall use of the product.
I am getting a head of myself, but the conditioner is amazing! Unfortunately they only give you a packet (as opposed to a resealable tube that has a few uses in it) They need to make the the conditioner available for purchase in a bottle. It is great!
The product was super easy to apply- you mix it just like any other hair dye and apply. I am always skeptical about things that claim to work fast, so I did end up leaving mine on for longer than 10 minutes, but the box dis say you could go 15, and I had dark roots, light highlights and some grays to cover, so I went a bit longer. The formula is a bit runny, but I had no major problems applying it and made no more a mess than I usually do (one glob somewhere it wasn't meant to be is average for me) It was easy to pile on top of my head and keep it there without a clip, so that is a plus!.
After washing out the dye and using the fab conditioner (I love it!!) I let my hair air dry and was so happy with my results, not only was the colour great, my hair was so smooth and shiny! Better than it usually looks when I shampoo and do my regular routine.
I would totally buy this product again, I had a very pleasant experience!
I got this from the Review Club, and I was really excited. Having tried it out, I wasn't necessarily disappointed, but I don't think I will be using it again any time soon. The colour is pretty much what the box says, but the application was a little messy, as the dye was runny. I did love that it was ammonia free though, and the smell certainly reflected that. the gloves were also huge and got dye stuck in blobs, which lead to uneven spreading of the product.
On the bright side, the conditioner was amazing, and left my hair feeling great. The colour wasn't a drastic change for me, so in the end, it was a bit of a frustrating process, but I don't have anything major to complain about. A solid 3...
I was chosen as one of the ChickAdvisors to try and rate Garnier's new HerbaShine, an ammonia free demi-permanent hair dye. I was extremely excited, as my hair was dyed a few months back and my dark, nearly black coloured roots were sharply contrasting the light brown that I had dyed it, looking awful. I chose a dark brown (colour #400) in the hopes of giving my hair a nice, even rich brown tone.
First off, I could not for the LIFE of me get the cap off of the activating cream!! I asked everyone around me to help and must have spent a good fifteen minutes figuring out different ways to get the cap to twist off, but it didn't even budge. I gave up and had to improvise with another bottle I had lying around... it made dying my hair very difficult and drippy. The process of dying my hair was thus made more aggravating than normal, and the formula was also more runny than I'm used to. On the plus side, I did appreciate the fact that it was ammonia-free, making me feel a bit better about colouring my hair. And it smelled very nice. However, the final result was still disappointing. My black roots are still black, not dark brown, and my light brown hair is still light brown. If I hadn't told my friends I dyed my hair, nobody would have noticed.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this product. The fact that I couldn't get the cap off of the activating cream made the entire process more difficult than normal, and the results were not up to par to my expectations. The only thing I appreciated was the conditioner - by far the most amazing I've used! Super thick, nice smelling, and my hair does feel smoother. I just wish the colour changed was more obvious.
I was chosen to review Garnier's Herbashine Hair Colour as a part of the Product Review Club (light golden brown 630).
This hair colour kit is easy to use, has a thick cream formula that ensures a drip free hair application. The smell is really nice and you can tell it's ammonia free :)
I LOVE the conditioner that came with the box, it smells unlike any other box-dye conditioner I have ever used. My hair felt soft and looked shiny and even all over. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a safer alternative to home hair colouring kits. The only concern for women looking for full grey coverage is that the product claims to cover up to 70% of grey's, so you may want to keep using a product that contains ammonia for fuller longer lasting coverage.

Very pleased with the product. The color (red mahogany 565) I got is exactly the one on the box, even though my hair was two-toned, naturally brown but colored in a lighter shade 3 months ago. The conditioner is thick and great, no foul ammonia smell, no drip. I will repurchase.
I usually use l’Oreal hairdyes so this is my first time using a Garnier one, the instructions seem the same, until you get to the 10 minute development time. Usually its 25 – 30 mins and I leave it on an extra ten because of my dark hair so 10 is a little disconcerting (it says I should leave this shade on for 15 though inside the packaging – it pays to read well).
My first complaint however, if the gloves, maybe I have been spoilt with the gloves my regular hairdye comes with, the typical latex gloves doctors use etc but this one comes with those flimsy plastic giant ones that don’t conform and get the hairdye stuck in the creases to leave a large blob somewhere.
The dye has quite a nice scent, probably due to the lack of ammonia as stated on the packaging, matching the bright purple of the dye once the two cream coloured liquids mixed – it reminds me of those cheap childhood candy things. I did find it was a little harder to mix them well compared to my usual brand and the bottle got quite warm as they mixed – not sure if that is normal.
Application was the same as normal, use on dry hair, work through all the hair etc – sit for 15 mins wondering is this really long enough, rinse and condition. The conditioner is thick like a restorative mask for your hair and left my hair feeling really silky, and despite not being permanent, after quite a long time, the water did run clear.
The colour, while my hair was still wet looks good, I can still see a few greys but it seems to have covered up most of them, which is great – although how long that lasts remains to be seen, when dried, some of the greys were quite orange so I shampooed and conditioned and it is much better.
