This is not meant to keep belongings locked for an extended period of time. It is only meant to allow the owner to quickly and easily attach their stuff to a pole or chair and keep it attached while they are present, but perhaps not fully aware of what goes on around them. The extending metal line is thin, but durable enough to withstand an attempted snatch and run. It will not withstand somebody using metal pliers to cut it through. With that in mind, this is a good way to keep things with you. It is expensive for the quality, but you may be able to find it cheaply at a liquidation store.
