Finally tried Halo Top

I have finally tried Halo Top frozen desserts after hearing about their low cal treats for a while. After sampling a few flavours, I think the Candy Bar is my favourite, because I like how natural the flavouring is and the peanut chunks are the best part!

Expensive for what it is

This product is ridiculously expensive, priced to compete with premium brands like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs. At $7 a pint, I will never purchase this again - I'll splurge for real Ben & Jerry's!

With that being said, this is a pretty tasty ice cream for ~350 calories/pint. The chocolate flavor of the "ice cream" is pretty good, and I love the chocolate sauce swirls. There are a few peanuts (I wish there were more, but I understand that peanuts are calorie dense!). The consistency is fairly good, but I wish it melted more like ice cream.
I don't particularly like the taste of artificial sweeteners, and unfortunately this flavor of Halo Top tastes quite a bit like artificial sweetener. If you are watching your calories and find yourself "indulging" often, Candy Bar Halo Top is a great low-cal option. Since I rarely eat ice cream, though, I'll probably stick to my twice-a-year-Ben&Jerry;'s.

HOW!?

Last night I went out and bought TEN pints of Halo Top (because why not?) and Taste tested them all (again, why not?).

Candy Bar was definitely my top 3, if not top 1. It’s stll too early to tell but it was so yummy! It’s packed with small peanuts and reminds me of a 3 muskateers with peanuts and some chocolate sauce.

My only issue with Halo Top is that it definitely doesn’t taste like real ice cream which is kind of a “duh” thing to say considering it’s 1/4 the calories of a normal pint, but you can really taste the stevia in some of the flavours, especially if you’re eating the whole pint (which you are, don’t lie). I found that Breyer’s did a much better job at mimicking real ice cream with their low cal ice cream. Their cookies and cream is to die for and Halo Top’s version doesn’t even sit in the same league.

All in all, I’m really happy with Halo Top and Candy Bar in particular. I definitely see myself buying this flavour again in the future.
