Great wand, but not ideal for shorter hair.
Today I learned the difference between a curling wand (which this is) and curling iron. For those wondering, it is - amongst other things - the little clip for hair. See how this one has a smooth barrell; no clip. Unfortunately, it also means that this wand isn't really right for me. I have very short hair, about a year ago I had a pixie cut and it's been messily growing out since then. Since my hair is currently less than the length of my chin, curling with a wand is very difficult. I was able to get a somewhat curl with this, but it's not the product's fault. I would just caution, that if you have shorter hair, having a curling iron (with a clip) is much more beneficial, since you clip the hair and twirl it, as opposed to trying to wind your hair around a hot barrel while holding it.
If you have longer hair, it's a personal preference more than anything, but short haired gals (or guys) are going to want that clip! They do kindly include a glove to help prevent burns though. I found the glove a little confusing. I switch hands depending on what side I'm curling and the glove was unclear which side was the 'protective' side, possibly both? More info on that would have been great.
Other than my hair length being uncooperative, I found this curling wand worked very well. The dial is easy to use and because you hold the wand lower down, there's no risk of hitting it. A strange choice was having an off and on button as opposed to just pressing the same button twice, but it's not a big problem. The stand also works well (in conjunction with the cool tip) though I personally would like it to be a tad bigger as I'm paranoid about leaving cooling implements and there's only a little clearance there. The swivel cord works great and the cord has good length.
The rainbow 'oil spill' effect is very much to my taste and complements the standard black design very well. Frankly, it looks hella cool and works great at curling hair, so I can't really fault it. Keep in mind that you might prefer an iron though, especially if you have shorter hair.
