I read about lipstains here on Chickadvisor and was too scared to try it. I thought "what if I miss and stain my face?!?" But I saw them on sale while grocery shopping and decided to try a few out. The next day I tried on the Watermelon colour and it was so bright and lasted all day! I was getting compliments on how juicy and bright my lips looks all day. I am completely in love and carry 3 different shades around in my purse now ;)
I was dying to try a lipstain, and I decided Joe Fresh would be the safest bet because all of the cosmetics are incredibly priced. I tried the apricot colour and with a bit of sheer gloss on top, it looks amazing. The colour lasts allll day long. I was actually leaving for the cottage on a Friday night, and I looked all "dolled up" because my lip colour still looked so snazzy. I was also worried about it drying out my lips because my lips are already quite dry... but it was perfectly fine.
I was a little hesitant in trying the Joe makeup line but I am not really sure why. I love Joe fresh clothing, I have used their makeup brushes and they rock but for some reason it took me a little while to get around to the makeup. I started with their lip stain because I have been in the market for one that is natural looking and not too drying. I tried the shade "watermelon" and its a perfect match for my skin type. It gives you a hint of colour without being overly obvious. It wasn't to drying either but I still loaded up on lip balm after I applied the stain. It lasts a really long time which is great for a low maintenance look that looks polished but not great if you have clumsy application skills (keep makeup remover on hand for those days!)
This is a great lipstain - I prefer these much more than the covergirl and revlon lip stains I have:
LOVE:
- these. are. so. cheap!!!!!! wayyyy cheaper than revlon or cover girl (but you do get less product)
- they come in an amazing shade of colours! I have grapefruit (lt pink), watermelon (darker pink), tangerine (soft orange), apple (soft red), and red (bright, true red) . "red" is great for wearing under a shiny red lipstick for a night out, and the other colours are everyday colours, that look natural with a hint of "je ne sais quoi", I wear them to university nearly every day.
- the buildability of the colours. if I want to wear them sheerly, I put a swipe on and blot immediately as needed, i can wear them "true to colour", or wait 30 seconds for them to dry and put on an extra coat if i want to pump up the colour. this is one area where covergirl especially cannot stand up to joe.
- weartime: i can wear these from 8 to 4 if i re-apply after eating, they last about 5 hours without eating
- they actually show up on my pigmented lips!
- arent as drying as covergirl.
LEAVE:
- literally nothing! each time i go to superstore i always pick up one or two more colours. FANTASTIC!!!!!
OVERALL: buy. these. lipstains. if you're wary, start out with grapefruit - a soft pink that looks good on everyone!
I bought the Joe Fresh Lipstain in "Apple" for $6 at Loblaws.
This product claims: to give you a natural flush of colour. It is long lasting, with a matte finish.
What I love:
- Joe offers their lipstains in a variety of shades.
- The size of the product is perfect to carry around!
- Easy to use, marker-like applicator gives you precision while applying.
- The colour really does give a nice matte finish and really is long lasting.
- Perfect for summer days because it will not smear everywhere. Once it's on, it's on!
What's not-so-good:
- The lipstain dries out my lips after a mere 15 minutes or so, even after I applied some lip balm over it.
- Dries incredibly fast, so blending it out has to be fast too. Otherwise you'll end up with lips that are too bright! (I'm not sure if this is a downside for you, but it is for me)
All-in-all:
Joe Fresh Lipstain is really good for the price. Although I would not recommend it for winter use (due to it drying out fast on your lips), this is a perfect summer lipstain. There are more and more companies coming out with their own lipstains, for example Covergirl. So if I were you, this would be a good 'tester' lipstain, and then you can fork out more money for the well-known brands if you like it. This leads me to wonder, would the lipstain work on the cheeks too?
I wanted to love this. I really did. I have been meaning to try a lip stain in marker form for a while now, and was reluctant to try Cover Girls Outlast Lipstain because of all the mixed reviews on Chickadvisor.
I chose Joe Fresh because in classic Joe Fresh style, its super cheap: only 4 bucks. However that's pretty much where my positive observations of this product end. It doesn't apply easily OR evenly, it doesn't have a dark/bright colour payoff, and it doesn't last for as long as I would expect something called a stain to last! It also smells kinda funny which just adds to the reasons I do not love it.
Not to mention, you know when you were a kid and you accidentally didn't close the lid of your magic marker properly (or lets be honest, close it at all) and the colour dried up and you desperately tried to get it to work again but it never did. Well this lip stain was like that from the moment I opened the package.
Not. Impressed. Sorry Joe Fresh, I LOVE you but please stick to clothes. Thank you.
I love this lip stain so much that after trying out two shades I had to go back to Zehrs and pick up one more! The colours I have are Watermelon, Red, and Grapefruit.
These lip stains have the same felt tip applicator that the Cover Girl lip stains have but I find the product far superior. The colours are more intense and last longer, and they don't smell as chemically when you put them on. Plus at $6 a pop they're totally affordable! Basically, everything you could want in a lip stain.
So far my favourite shade is Watermelon, which gives me a pretty pigmented raspberry colour (the colour can be adjusted depending on how you apply). Red is darker than I was anticipating but gives a dramatic red lip that would be great for a night out. I think the colour I'm really after is Apple just to give me a good base for a bright red lippy. Grapefruit is a good every day colour just to brighten up my lips a bit, but since my lips are already fairly pigmented on their own it's not super noticeable on me.
Like any lip stain I've tried these are a bit drying, so I just make sure to use lip balm throughout the day. And of course you need to make sure your lips aren't too dry before applying or the lip stain will just highlight the dry skin (yuck!)
