Beautiful Highlights!
When I first saw "Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray" on the shelf at the store, the first thing I thought of was Sun In. ( Remember that girls.....) But with John Freeda's name on it I thought I would give it a try. Love the effects and different tones of blonde in my naturally blonde hair. Definitely recommend!
When I was in my late 20s I never dyed my hair. In the summer I would spray this in and my hair would stay beach blonde for months. Now in my late 40s it doesn't really work on greying hair and barely lightens the roots. Made for young bouncy hair.
I usually do not buy hair products that are over the $4 mark - unless it is hair color. However, I had a coupon, it was on sale, etc., I decided to buy the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray. It was a bit pricey - $10.99. After I wash my hair and towel dry, I spray this mainly on my bangs and around my face. I do not use it all over my hair. Just the roots and any spot that looks a bit dark.
Note: DO NOT use this product on hair darker than mine! (see photo) - it will turn orange.
I used the spray around 5 times, over a span of two weeks. I strategically applied the product onto the top layer of my towel-dried hair, concentrating it on the bottom half versus on the roots. I loosely combed through with my hands to evenly distribute the product, then continued with my typical 2 minute blow-dry. The directions state "the more heat you use, the greater the lightening effects". I don't typically use hot tools, but if you were going for an ombré style or more defined highlights, I'm sure some extra heat would help.
The results are exactly what I was looking for - noticeable highlights, without looking fake or overdone. For a drugstore product thats around $10, I couldn't be more pleased.
Loved this product, I received a freebie through the John Frieda Elite club, I was skeptical about it at first and waited until I decided to dye my hair back blonde and had some roots before I used it and I loved it! worked great, will deffinately be buying the full size product soon!
I received this as a sample and decided to give it a try. I have naturally dirty blonde hair with some old salon highlights in it. I used it about 4 times now and I'm definitely noticing some lightening going on. My one problem is that because it's a spray, there is no way to really control where it goes or the volume of product that goes on the hair. I'll definitely keep trying it out to see how much lighter it can get.
So I personally have not used this product on my own hair as I have it lightened at the salon, My four year old daughter has been after me to bleach her hair blonde which I am totally against so when I received a sample of this product I decided to try it out on her dirty blonde hair. After using this I've noticed that it looks as if she has natural highlights in her hair, it's very mild and does not look fake at all. I will continue to use this a few more times on her hair during the summer months to see if it will lighten more with the suns help.
The only downside to this product is although it's very controlled and not as harsh as bleach it still dries the hair a bit so just use an occasional deep conditioner.
