Not really sure where to buy Julep polishes in Canada, but if you're in the States you can apparently get them at Ulta. I got lucky and found a bunch at Winners once, and own about 6 different shades. $14 for one bottle (according to the website) is a bit steep for me, and my bottles were on clearance for like $1 a piece, so of course I snatched them all up. The colours are opaque in 1-2 coats, which is great. The names are an interesting change, because they're named like people instead of the interesting names you'd find on other nail polish bottles. There is a strange odour with one of the polishes that I own though: the plain white called Nicolette. Maybe it's just an old bottle or something, but it smells kind of skunky.
I don't own many Julep Nail Polishes but from the ones I have I like. Their finishes are different and provide different lasting times but nonetheless, I enjoy the colour selection and quality.
I have been a Maven member for over 2 years now and I order almost every month. I really like the different kinds they have to fit most style personas.
I purchased some Julep about 2 years ago and I am still enjoying it as much as I did the first day I got it. I love the company and will continue to buy more!
Product review about Winona:
I actually can't say too much about the price, as I got this from a trade with a bunch of people. But it's definitely a nice colour! It's a dark-ish grey and stands wear pretty well (of course I also use it with my seche vite top coat). I dont know if I would go out of my way to buy it online since Essie, OPI etc has many colours for around $10 (this retails for around $15 i think).
Julep is, for me, very much hit or miss. I was part of the subscription service for about 2 years until eventually I cancelled as I became quite disappointed by their prices and shades. They do offer a lot of variety, but it's really only worth it if you're choosing your own shades AND buying at a discount. Overall the quality is fine, but I've had many polishes dry up on me before I was even halfway through the bottle. I do love a lot of their metallic shades though!
I received 2 of these polishes recently and liked the colors, even though I would of never chosen the shades for myself. I had to put on a couple coats to achieve the right color and it looks nice. I don't think I would subscribe to this nail polish subscription, because I like to choose my own colors.
My julep polishes are my favorites, they last a long time, have a great effect, but i think they're kind of overpriced, that's why i buy them from swaps or in sale
It is definitely one of the pricier polishes out there, and there colour range may not be as extensive as OPI's or Essie's. But they are cruelty-free, vegan, and last a ridiculously long time. I work with bleach and wash dishes at work, and even when wearing gloves most polishes last a couple of days. This lasted a week with minimal chipping, enough that I never felt the need to fix anything until the weekend.
If you are the type of person where polish seems like too much hassle, I would suggest getting a couple of bottles of these, and then not worrying about your nails throughout the week.
The selection is good and I love the bottle design; slim, takes up less space, and you can swatch the top of the bottle easily. I'm not sure if the subscription is worth it or not though. I wear nailpolish maybe once a week, so I don't think it's worth it for someone like me. Individually $14 is a bit much for one bottle, when you can get OPI for $8-12 in store of equal or better quality. It is nice that the nailpolish is vegan and paraben free. The smell isn't as overwhelming as some other brands.
I've since changed my mind since I first reviewed Julep nailpolish. I was on the fence about it, mostly because of the price, but I've since decided that it's completely worth it! It's long lasting and comes in a lot of colours, shades, and textures. The best part about it? I thought that each bottle was $14, but most of the time they have fantastic deals where you can get a bottle for under $7. I love getting new nailpolish each month in my subscription box!
