I use the Kobo Vox eReader. I love it. I think it is just as good as the iPad. The only difference is that it does not have a camera so you can't take photos or videos. Who cares. That's what my smart phone is for. I surf the web on it and download pictures and videos. I can download books and read it off the large color screen.
The battery life on it is pretty decent too.
I highly recommend it.
I have had my Kobo going on 2 years now. Im a avid reader. I will admit it took me a few months to get into. I was even going to Chapters and still buying books. Eventually I brought it with no other books to my cottage. we fell in LOVE!! lol. I love this Kobo. The battery power is great, im still actually shocked how well it lasts. i usually read for approx 1 hr every night, and i usually only charge every few weeks, however it isnt even dead yet. I will still buy classics in paper form, there is something great about building a library of great books, but the KOBO is a great gadget and I will continue to use on a daily basis.
This is my second ebook reader I have purchased and I could not be happier. It's been around 6 months that I have owned it and I use it every single day.
Pros
The charging cord is not a proprietary cord (like apple has for their ipods). If something happens to your cord then you can go to any electronics store and purchase another one (if you do not already have one around the house for another electronic device).
The battery life is amazing. Even with the backlight on and hours of use almost every day I can still go over a week on a single charge.
The backlight isn't so powerful that it is hard on the eyes when used at night or in a dark room
The screen is always easy to read, even in the sun.
It supports so many different formats. I can use the librarys digital edition program to rent books (which I could not do on a kindle).
Cons
The touch control can be a little finicky. I've had multiple instances of trying to turn the page and the touch control will think I am trying to change a different setting.
Maybe it's me but I have a horrible time getting the dictionary function to work on the first 10 tries of trying to get the definition of a word. Maybe this and the other con listed above are because I have fat fingers.
The WIFI function is a major battery drain (like on every other electronic that has a WIFI function). I suffered in the beginning of ownership with horrible battery life till I did some research online and found out that how I had the kobo configured, it was constantly trying to connect to the WIFI even if I was nowhere near a WIFI signal.
It's black and white, no color. I just thought I should mention this because while I use mine to read digital magazines and comics and went into the purchase knowing that if this is a major issue to you then this might not be the best purchase in your case. The greyscale on this makes pictures still stand out beautifully.
Overall though if I was looking for a new ereader I would certainly purchase another one of these. The next step up from this product would be to purchase a tablet and current technology makes battery life on them horrible. If you are looking for something to read your books, magazines and comic books then this is the best ebook reader on the market.
I have had my kobo touch e-reader for almost a year and a half. I love it so much. It is so easy to use, I have thousands of books to chose from and it goes everywhere with me. I love that my battery lasts almost a month and when I took it on vacation to the Dominican Republic it lasted the whole trip, was great to use in the sun and was an awesome way to spend the time on the plane. There is NO glare from the sun, which is a great feature and is a big bonus for me.
I love my Kobo! It is so light and easy to take everywhere I go. You wouldn't want to lug around a bunch of books with you everywhere you go, but with the Kobo you really do have that flexibility to do so and it takes up next to no space at all. Perfect for going on vacation, or just sitting around the house with a coffee. It is easy to use and set up.
I've had my Kobo for over a year and it barely leaves my side. The navigation is super simple for adding books and the extra storage is perfect if you have books you didn't buy through the Kobo store. The battery is great. I only have to charge mine twice a week. I like the reading stats. It's something I never thought to keep track of before. Customer service is quick to respond when there is an issue. My Kobo is starting to have issues updating but this is after a year and half of constant use. I will no doubt replace it either with this same model or the Kobo Glo for the book light.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I got one for Christmas and I was skeptical about e-readers because I really do love books, but I love it. The only downfall is that I find I go through a book almost too quickly now, but I'm not really complaining about that. I use it all the time. The only problem I've experienced with it is when the battery dies it takes forever for it to recharge and turn on again. Otherwise, I love it!
amazing i take it everywere i go i love it, i take it camping with me and its nice to sit by the water and read a book
