Our daughter got this game one Christmas and she absolutely loves it. We all have a blast playing it on family game night. Who doesn't love Lego? You get to build things, change up the rules, it's great for kids of all ages.
First of all (and this goes for all Lego building sets) I don't know why they can't package the pieces together in a way that makes more sense. In this game the instructions tell you to sort the colours into the tray that's provided. Why can't they just package them in the same colour! So after a few minutes of sorting pieces we got everything all set up and decided to play in the Collaborative mode (you can also play as Teams or with just 1 builder or with just 1 guesser). The goal of the game is to roll the dice to determine which category you'll build from (Transportation, Nature, Buildings, or Things) then pick a card which can be easy, medium, or hard difficulty. You look at the appropriate picture on the card and try to replicate it using the assortment of Lego pieces provided. The other players try to guess what you're building.
It was fun but my boys were both more interested in just building whatever they wanted. Then Q would want to finish building his thing even after someone had guessed it. C's strategy was to wait & see what it was when the builder was done. Then he wondered why he didn't have as many points. Well if you wait until the end the chances are someone else will have already guessed it correctly. The boys and I played together for probably an hour and then I left them to just play and build what they wanted. They're still down there having fun.
I do think Q is a bit too young still because he kept having to turn the card over to see what he was supposed to be building and even C had a hard time not blurting out what he was building. That being said Lego is always a good choice in our family since it helps with imaginative play and fine motor skills.
