I absolutely LOVE volume shocking mascara, my eyelashes are soo long and gorgeous after using this, they look fake!! The primer is awesome, and the comb is probably what is deeming this mascara the bad reviews. I personally like the comb, but I can see how some people wouldn't. If you want hassle-free this probably isn't for you. It takes some getting used to for applying the mascara with the comb, but once you are the results are incredible! You just have to hold the comb differently and apply it slowly and lightly, or else you end up with a clumpy, goopy mess. It also helps to wipe the comb with a kleenex before you use it, so you're not putting so much excess mascara on that is gooping up the comb. Aside from that, this is probably my favorite mascara aside from victoria's secret sexy lashes, and diorshow.

For the price, I was a little dissapointed. The primer is not all that special and much like many of the other consumers, I had a difficult time trying to get my eyelashes to hold a curl since my lashes didn't look all that shocking. If you get stuck with this since you wanted to try it out like the rest of us, I would also recommend dropping the use of the primer and just sticking with a double dose of the mascara itself. Then when your done, move on to better one.

I really wanted to try a mascara wand that's a comb instead of a brush (and I was sketch about trying Rimmel's version b/c the last Rimmel mascara I tried burned my eyes) and this was the cheapest I could find. The formula is really watery, so don't sneeze within 5min of putting this stuff on! And not a lot of mascara actually fits on the brush so plan on putting it in and taking it out of the bottle at least 7 times, pretty time consuming! I tried the primer on the top lashes only and it actually made my lashes look shorter after putting on the black. My unprimed bottom lashes, however, looked much longer! So final thoughts: love the comb wand, the formula's ok, hate the primer, and would never use this on a day when I'm in a rush b/c it's way to east to screw up.

This mascara works wonders for me. The first primer coat does help make the lashes look thicker, longer and fuller. What I do recommend before using the product is to use an eyelash curler before applying the primer and buy the waterproof version to keep the lashes from looking droopy.

I have to agree with some of the other raters, I am not a huge fan of this product. I understand the theory behind priming your lashes and then applying mascara on top of the primer for longer thicker and more dramatic lashes but I find that in the end the primer makes it difficult for my lashes to hold it's natural curl...it's as though the product weighs my lashes down and that totally defeats the purpose of trying to wear mascara to open up your eye.... I say skip this product and try L'oreal Voluminous mascara instead...of their mascaras the Voluminous mascara is definitely the better product.

This mascara will require you to work overtime if you want big dramatic eyelashes. Volume Shocking mascara has succeeded in making my little eyelashes much larger and longer and although it has worked for me, I have found it really annoying to be constantly applying the primer and mascara. At the end of the day, my eyelashes get heavy and droopier because of the double coated applications ... undoing all that hard work you put into your little lashes.

I absolutely love this mascara. The most common compliment I get on my lashes with any mascara I use is "Those are YOUR lashes?!?!" I use this mascara when I'm running short on time and cannot do multiple coats of another formula. With Volume Shocking, after using the primer, only use one coat on each eye. After applying on one eye use the (now empty) applicator comb to remove any clumps you may have or to straighten out any rebellious lashes. Then do the same to your other eye. It packs a punch and since L'Oreal Paris owns Lancome, you'll love this mascara if you like Lancome's pricer Fatale.

I really must say this was a total disapointment. I didnt' like that you had to use 2 applicators and it didn't make my lashes any more long or thick than maybelline. not worth the price at all!

Listen, when you buy a mascara and it gives you Spider Eyes and clumps, it's not a good mascara. Because the prep time to get the mascara to a point where it IS useable is a waste of time, especially when you can just buy Maybelline Great Lash, Almay One Coat, or even Physician's Formula Lash in a Tube.

L'Oreal's Volume Shocking Mascara starts off well enough. A big bristled mascara wand plump with primer goes on smooth while plumping and lengthening lashes.

Where it goes horribly wrong is with the second step top coat. Zigzagging toothed comb loads more than enough topcoat and clogs teeth to a point that makes it impossible to comb through lashes, resulting in ooey gooey spidery sticking together lashes.

Don't believe me, drop the cash, find out for yourself and then return to the counter because the product sucks ass.

I unfortunatly was hopeful I just didn't master the "technique" so I've tried wiping access off on a tissue, gently carressing my lashes, violently batting my lashes on the wand, softly batting my lashes against the wand, whispering sweet nothings to the wand, negotiating and even angrily throwing the wand against the wall.

    Nothing worked.

    What does work?
    Use the primer.
Then follow up with any other mascara OR purchasing mascara wands (or stealing the testers from sephora) and ignoring the ridiculous comb all together.

However, I don't like the grainy finish I get on the lashes.

    It's just a crappy mascara.
You want full lashes akin to falseys? then try Physician's Formula Lash in a Tube. Much better results with a primer built in.

    Less emotional strain as well.
